Trump picks controversial “pastor” to lead appearance in Jerusalem

Chuck Schumer Praises Trump for Opening Jerusalem Embassy

However, as that article states, at least he's being consistent:

"... If you hear other leading Democrats protest the move today, consider how they’ve voted.

"The 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act, which provided for the relocation, passed the Senate 93–5 and the House 374–37. Though most of the Democrats who voted for that are gone, not all of them are. In addition to Schumer, Sens. Dick Durbin, Dianne Feinstein, Pat Leahy, and Patty Murray voted for it, as did House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi."

On the other hand, our previous Presidents - being concerned more about the bigger picture instead of pleasing some of their constituents - took advantage of the waiver portion of the Act:

"The bill allowed presidents to repeatedly waive the embassy relocation if they found it in the United States’ national security interests. That’s how President Clinton, who signed the bill, as well as Presidents Bush and Obama regularly postponed the move."

The Jerusalem Embassy was always meant as a bargaining chip, as a way to get concessions from Israel for a strong commitment.
Mr. Art-of-the-Deal just pissed away a major opportunity, irrevocably so.

But it made his base happy....that is the only thing that matters to Donnie.
I am reading the exact location of the embassy is partial in West Jerusalem, but partly in East Jerusalem, that was part of Jordan before the 67 war,and that is what really fuelled the protests. if it would have been in that part of Jerusalem that was Israeli territory before the Six Day War,it would not have been quite so bad. Another Horrid decision by Donnie.

So, we now have Likud on international news declaring a theocracy, a one-state solution, and the end of all pretense that this is anything other than a religious war. Which has me panicking: What to wear to the upcoming Armageddon BBQ?

Maybe a T-shirt with "I Solved the Fermi Paradox!"

Pastor Jeffress, who appears to be rather violently against any religion other than his brand of Christianity, will accompany Trump to Jerusalem:

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/05/tr...going-hell-lead-prayer-new-jerusalem-embassy/

CNN Played clips of this fellow denouncing Judaism, Islam, and other religions as “heresies from Hell” (among other wild statements).

Sometimes you just have to wonder.....

Wonder what Adelson will have to say about that when they get back to the US. And where Jeffress's body will be found in the badlands of Nevada some years in the future.

Quote:

Jeffress serves on President Donald Trump’s Evangelical Advisory Board and is a member of his White House Faith Initiative.

What happened to the separation of church and state?

republicker slime shacking up with fundy religious ************* ******* suckers took it over thanks to idiots.

Slightly O/T is there a thread about the US Embassy being put in Jerusalme and the subsequent uproar?

Yeah, in the International Politics section.

But looks as though this thread is becoming a de facto thread on the whole topic.

I think Jennifer Rubin got it right when she said that in order to make any progress there has to be a New Israeli President, a New Palestinian Government, and and a New US President.
