And experience selling them, to boot!
Not just selling them, selling them illegally to people who shouldn’t have them. How much more symbolic of the NRA can you get!

Oliver North the newly elected president of the National Rifle Association has claimed that gun control activists, like those who have emerged following a deadly shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, in February, are “civil terrorists.”
“They’re not activists—this is civil terrorism. This is the kind of thing that’s never been seen against a civil rights organization in America,” Oliver North told the Washington Times. “You go back to the terrible days of Jim Crow and those kinds of things—even there you didn’t have this kind of thing.”

Because the "club" has a ridiculous amount of political power in the US and works against any proposed gun control law.

Wasn't North's temporary conviction having to do with a tax deduction for a security fence around his home?
NRA/gun debate discussions are going to be peppered with Iran-Contra references for the foreseeable future, aren’t they?
That's really horrible "people who hold a different opinion to me are equivalent to indiscriminate murderers and worse than racists". At least he's shown his colours quickly and saved anyone wasting their time giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I literally have no idea what this is in reference to.
In addition, North was charged with accepting illegal money in exchange for government services because he allowed Secord to pay for his home-security system.
Ultimately, a jury found North guilty of obstruction of congressional inquiries, destroying NSC documents, and receiving an illegal gratuity.
One of the things North was convicted of was receiving an "illegal gratuity" - that was the home security system. Not a tax dodge, more like a bribe:
I swear, if the NRA was controlled by a secret cabal of anti-gun liberals trying to make gun owners look like dangerous lunatics, I don't know how they'd be behaving differently than they are right now.
