Trump appointing Dr. Oz to his sport, fitness and nutrition council

https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/04/politics/trump-dr-oz-health-advisor/index.html

I'm guessing Trump saw him in TV and decided he would be good for the position. Apparently Trump likes the hulk too.

"The White House also announced on Friday that Trump will appoint former bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno, famous for playing the Hulk in the television show "The Incredible Hulk" in the 1970s and '80s, and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick to the council for two-year terms."

We have that here in Washington as well. We used to have a "wide open" primary system, where you could vote for anyone regardless of party. The party machines HATED that, because it diminished their control of who the candidate would be. They sued in federal court and won. We then wound up with a "pick-a-party" system, where you didn't actually have to join a party, but could only vote for one. The voters hated that. So we wound up with a top-two system. The minor parties hate that because they are excluded from the GA ballot, but they have no influence anyway.

At least one district here had only two Republicans on the GA ballot for Congress last time. To my surprise, the more sensible of the two was elected. That was, of course, east of the mountains, not out here on the left coast.

It is insane that governments take any role in determining who will run for office.

Yep, in the CNN clip at that link, on TV Dr Oz complimented his fellow con artist.

Why does such a council even exist?

I'd say that no matter who was president, but it's especially absurd under Trump.

A story someone fed him, or one he got from Fox or his right wing blog surfing or whatever he does to feed his CT appetite.

Here's a story on it:

https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...o-new-faith-office-in-the-white-house/559574/

I'm guessing it's standard pandering.

The office was created by George W Bush and was maintained by Obama but maybe it's going to change under Donald Trump to be explicitly pro evangelical Christian...

I don't think that is a guess. Dump doesn't give a damn about Christianity but he does know how to score with his base. Yes, it's pretty much a redo of W's office that Obama was too soft to get rid of. It really gets me when claims are made such as those in that Atlantic article about the importance of "faith based" policies. Why the hell is something being "faith based" give it more credence than my NON faith based view. D. U. M. B. Dumb.

Not that I don't have some sympathy for a lot of the people just trying to do their jobs at the White House. People who don't have a hand in crafting the lies or destroying the norms that maintain trust in government and the like, even if I politically disagree with them, I have some sympathy for.

But that's why I have zero sympathy for Sanders. By what I've read, she has substantial access to Dump and helps formulate some of his positions and statements. So she DOES have a hand in the actions of this administration.

Ya know, she's not an indentured servant. If she put into action that Christianity that she so avidly professes, she would have walked out the door a day after taking the job. But she's like the rest of the evangelical base in that she's all too ready to trade her peity in for power.

At least Ferrigno has some qualifications. I recall during the Reagan years that Arnold Schwarzenegger was on the Council as well. But The PDJT doesn't like him -- low ratings, failing show...

This post is irrational. Literally irrational. It defies logic, in any and every possible interpretation.

How so? It isn't a requirement that in the role of legislators that practical considerations need to be weighed. Those strategies produce unacceptable results.

Latest from The Dunce, telling NRA Convention, a London hospital "once very prestigious...is like a war zone," because of all the knife violence.

Drumpf's source seems to be this Daily Fail article from last month, according to the Guardian. In that article, one surgeon complains about the rise in knife injuries, and that this now affects teens instead of twens.

First, he manages to misrepresent it. The way he talked about it evoked the idea that people were having knife fights within the hospital premises.

Second, he conveniently forgets that these people were injured and brought into hospital because they were having a knife fight and not a gun fight. With a gun fight, they would be dead (or at least, the number of fatalities would be a much higher proportion).

Dr. Oz was once a well respected doctor and then he sold out big time. You would think Trump would know that. But every decision he makes seems about trolling the public for a response.

The last time I checked, the rate of homicides with knives was statistically significantly higher in the United States than in England & Wales. I doubt the recent blip in London is going to significantly change that.

ETA: Having checked, in 2016 there were 1,604 homicides with sharp instruments in the United States, a rate of 0.49 per 100k of population. In England & Wales in 2015/16 there were 213 homicides with sharp instruments in England & Wales, a rate of 0.36 per 100k. So, yes, the US is 36% higher than the E&W one.

Very well. And entertaining. I don't agree with him all the time obviously, but he isn't one of the soul-sellers.

I don't watch Fox except the occasional Youtube video someone posts, but I was surprised that any Fox host was funny. Colbert should get him on. :p

And while that may be true, the overall homicide rate is significantly lower. The fly in the ointment.
