Wolf went after Conway and Sanders for being professional liars who support a pathological liar who is doing a great deal of damage to our democratic institutions like the free press and the judicial system. I remember when Rush went after Chelsey Clinton with insulting and derogatory remarks for no reason other than he is an *******, and the right ridiculed anyone who complained about his "comedy" as being overly sensitive. And Rush was the "unofficial head of the Republican Party" at the time, according to Newt Gingrich, not some barely known actual comic.

(Before anyone labels that a tu quoque, which is very often inappropriately done here, that logical fallacy is an argument of the form, "You are a hypocrite, therefore you are wrong." That's not the same thing as, "You are a world class hypocrite and your mock outrage is beyond laughable, therefore I really, really don't care what you think.")

Going after liars who support someone doing harm isn't a roast. The event is meant as a roast. Therefore they are the wrong comments for the venue.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say in response to my post.

It's hard for me to believe THAT ANYONE from the right has ANY REASON to complain about crass insensitive uncivil attacks at this President. That is because THIS PRESIDENT is uniquely crass and insensitive to others. Every day from his lips or tweets to front page headlines. He's NOT like any President that has come before. He ATTACKS everyone who disagrees with him.

I would very much rather that people would be more civil and have a sense of decorum, but to expect that while this Turd is holding that office is NOT going to happen.

As for Michelle Wolf's roast of Trump last night. It was awful. I didn't feel like it was a comedy routine, I felt like it was the news. It wasn't funny.

Please don’t feel sorry for me.

Humor is very subjective. Over the years I have found humor in some really outrageous, vile, disgusting and sacrilegious things.

I watched the performance last night expecting to be entertained - I wasn’t.

People who were there said it started on a high note and devolved quickly. When it got overtly personal and mean, there was a lot of groaning and, to hear them tell it and even worse for a comedian, near silence.

I do not like what Sarah Sanders does or represents. But “fat shaming” her in her presence was inappropriate and worse, not funny. It made me feel sorry for her, which beforehand I thought would be hard to do. The fact that Trump does it does not make it OK - it’s another sign of the overall lowering of standards his actions have brought about.

In another venue maybe her abortion jokes bring down the house. They didn’t here, and again, folks who were there reported that part as “cringe-worthy”.

But I’m glad you found her routine hilarious. I didn’t, but there’s no accounting for taste.

How was she fat shamed? I only remember a joke about her eye makeup.

...He's NOT like any President that has come before. He ATTACKS everyone who disagrees with him...

It's pretty obvious, using Senator Jon Tester as an example, that The Dunce will attempt to destroy anyone who doesn't obey The King. Trump nominates Ronny Jackson to be secretary of Veterans Affairs. The nomination goes to the Senate Veterans Affairs committee to be vetted. Active and retired military personnel contact the committee to contend Jackson would be a bad appointee. For one thing it sounds like he has a substance abuse problem compounded by heavy drinking. Tester says the committee will investigate these allegations. Trump reacts by calling Tester dishonest and sick, calls for him to resign and says he should be voted out of office if he doesn't.

The Dunce's dirtbaggery is off the charts. But I'll say this for him, he certainly has the dirtbag vote sewed up in a way no other elected official has ever come close to doing. Hey if you're a dirtbag, this is your guy! He expresses your dirtbag views in a way no other president has ever done. And that no other president is ever even likely to come close to doing. This is dirtbag heaven. ;)

He's NOT like any President that has come before. He ATTACKS everyone who disagrees with him.

That’s it right there, why the left hates him so much. Republicans have always run a sqeaky clean person for the presidency. When this rogue gets down on the level and uses the same tactics of the left, it’s a slap in the face every time he speaks. It is much fun to watch.

When my side disagrees with yours and your side makes every last argument like we’re the devil, now you understand why we’re cheering this guy on.

My wife @mercedesschlapp and I walked out early from the wh correspondents dinner. Enough of elites mocking all of us

The guy went to private secondary school, was a lobbyist and VP of Koch Industries, runs CPAC and is a commentator on Fox with a $5 mil net worth. He and his wife founded a "boutique government and public relations firm" and he has the nerve to call a journalist "elite'!

The word has no meaning. At all.

I'm sure he's one of those who thinks that white christians are the most discriminated against group in the US.

The biggest joke of it all is that even his wife is names Mercedes.

And yet the democrats are still able to go deeper in the mud. Even insulting the very people they claim to love the most.

??? I'm British, so maybe it's a case that usage is different in the States, but does "squeaky clean" mean something different over there?

Sounds like Schlapp is also a dirtbag. Which explains all! ;)

To me, the truly scary part about Trumpism is that it's so hard to tell where the lies stop and the delusions begin.

When my side disagrees with yours and your side makes every last argument like we’re the devil, now you understand why we’re cheering this guy on.

Oh, I understand that demagogues have always exploited fear, bigotry, and especially resentment to provoke emotional rather than rational responses.

I don't always pay that much attention to American politics. Perhaps you can remind me of some of the statements Obama made which were on a par with the ones Trump makes? Perhaps start with Obama mocking the disabled.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say in response to my post.

I seem to remember these same types of responses to Larry Wilmore, Wanda Sykes, and Stephen Colbert - among others. If they don't like the roasting, they should, y'know, stop inviting comedians to do roasts.

I heard Dolt 45 was raving about the horrible Mexicans to his loyalists in Michigan or something last night as well. I expect that this was far cruder than the WHCD.

I'm sure that ************ was much fun to write for you although I know you know that statement is not fact.

So is America better off now? I stand for who I believe will do what's best for the country and right now I'm not convinced that Trump is that person or this present Congress(It appears the partyline is more important to them than anything else). I actually wrote in John Kasich as the one i believed to be that guy.

Strictly making it as My side vs your side does not help move things forward; It creates much division and there is less common ground to reach or agree/compromise/come to your senses each day.
America is not so great right now.

Yes, but you are not a Putin fanboy

This presumes those were all roasts.

So some bad jokes in the routine made all the jokes unfunny?

I agree physical appearance shouldn't be the direction jokes go. I'll give you that.

But Sanders and Conway lie for Trump for a living. I don't believe these two women deserve kid gloves just because no one says "you lie" in the press briefing room.

But that doesn't sound like it is done with love. So it isn't a roast.
