It's just embarassing.

Repeat after me:

"I" before "E" except when discussing religion.

If I see the word "diety" ever again there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

But if one wanted to lose weight while worshipping, couldn't one be a diety deist?

DIE, DIETY, DIE!!!!

And while we're here, how about learning the correct use of apostrophes?
Wrong use: "Jimmy has two dog's."
Jimmy has two dog's what...??

Sorry, they weren't allowed to teach religion back when I larned my spelin'.

Actually, the problem is that those words are exceptions to the "or when sounded as A" clause of the spelling rules. Now, if it was pronounced as "thayist", I'd remember.

These words have nothing to do with the "i before e" rules, because both vowels are pronounced as distinct phonemes. So hint: When you're trying to spell them, don't think about the "i before e" rules. :D

The Dutch make their nouns plural by adding 's

It certainly confuses them when they have to write English...

There is an excellent freeware add-in spell checker called 'iSpell'. Will check spelling even in edit boxes like this.

Sorry. I occasionaly make typos that I don't notice.

I seem to recall it assumes you are running IE.

Yeah, iSpell predates Windows so it probably also works on unix, linux etc. For some reason I remember this being on our VAX long ago... I'm dating myself...

GNU aspell works with Opera. Nice to see Opera's still around, that was the first www browser I ever used. (As long as I'm in nostalgia mode).

If you have Opera on a Mac, it uses the Mac system spell checker so there's no excuse AT ALL for Mac users to misspell. :)

The one I use for Windows IE is 'iespell' (http://www.iespell.com), which only works with IE engines. Very easy and you just right click and select spell check.

Firefox 'Thunderbird' has an integrated checker, and Spellbound. I used Firefox for a little while but it crashed a lot and was slow. Maybe it's better now.
