Comey is a petty idiot

I like how the progressive narrative around Comey was that he was a scrupulous professional whose unbiased investigation of Hillary's email server was proof enough that she had done no wrong... right up until the moment he became an incompetent partisan troll who cost Hillary the election.

I think you're setting up a huge straw man.

You think that's what the "progressive narrative" is?

How curious.

To be fair, I do think that there are people who behave as theprestige says. There are also right wingers who said he was awful when he didn't call for her to be indicted, and then he became a man of great principle when he reopened the investigation just before the election, and then became a ne'er-do-well again when he did.......something. I really don't remember what it was that caused Trump to fire him. I think he was conducting an investigation, but I don't remember any hint of partisanship about it, when Trump fired him.

You don't remember why Trump fired him?

Nope. He was conducting an investigation, and I vaguely recall that Trump questioned his "loyalty", although why an FBI director would have "loyalty" to the President is beyond me. I think he criticized his handling of the Hillary investigation, which is B.S.

To be honest, so much of what has surrounded all of this investigation is so incredibly partisan that it just goes in one ear and out the other. That's from both sides.

Because he wouldn't look the other way on Flynn and the Russians and wouldn't take an oath of loyalty to his orangeness.

NO IT IS NOT! Republicans called for an appointment of a special prosecutor and Rosenstein is a lifelong Republican and so is Mueller. The idea that this some partisan witch hunt is just nonsense the liar and chief and Fox News are saying.

That's the stuff that pissed off Don Lemon so much the other night. I too am sick of hearing such deflectional bs.

That Meadmaker would say that proves how effective Trumps strategy is. He gaslights the whole world and a great many people fall in line. I hate to say this but the 'old Jedi mind trick' works.

Not that curious. I remember the claims about the investigation. And I remember the invective heaped upon him later.

And I remember a lot more nuance than you seem to.

Your characterization of the "progressive narrative" overlooks all of that.

Even if one concedes that there is such a monolithic entity.

Progressives, however, tend to avoid the obligation to a central monologue which always seems so important to conservatives. Each of whom is only one misstep from becoming a RINO or CINO.

One being all that it takes.

I suspect that the expectation of such compelled unanimity is what leads you to want to see the same tendency in other, less exclusionary ideologies.

It's not a partisan issue. Trump and his allies are trying to portray it as a partisan issue because that's the only narrative that can be advanced while disregarding the evidence.

And even then it is generally with yet another lie.

How is Trump different from a broken clock?

He can't even manage to be right twice a day.

What if he manages to make peace with North Korea and bring an end to the Korean war?

The memo giving the reason for firing Comey is public record.

Sorry, but I haven't been duped.

The story of this investigation is Vladimir Putin, not Donald Trump. The Russians were meddling in our electoral politics. Why? And how? And with whom?

Now, I should hasten to point out that I may have misspoken slightly. I do not think the investigation itself is partisan. It's the rhetoric surrounding it. For many on the left, the focus is on finding out whether Donald Trump committed a crime, so we can impeach him. That's all that matters to them. That's pretty partisan. For many on the right, it's about shutting down the investigation because it might tarnish the Trump administration, or possibly even lead to Trump's impeachment. That's pretty partisan.

So many of you, like so many Americans, can only see this through a partisan lens. For so many people, the only thing that matters is how it affects Donald Trump. In reality, there are bigger issues here.

The interesting thing is that the actual news that has come out of the investigation itself is, so far, very sparse, as it should be. As best I can tell, the investigators themselves are handling this very professionally. The country, on the other hand, is seeing everything through a partisan lens.

I remember that the reasons were sufficiently vapid that they should not have been taken seriously. What were they again? Not that it matters. It was ridiculous.

ETA: Yeah, I went back and looked at the memo. Partisan B.S. Not worthy of committing to memory.
