I don't think it would be smart for him not to take it. Get your pension.

Clearly, this was planned to screw McCabe at the last possible moment and weaken the FBI. It was a threat by the President against the rank and file government employee.

It will be a good sign to them that it didn't work.

No, it doesn't. There is still his reputation. And only Trumpers are unsympathetic, (though I have an issue with both McCabe and Comey in regards to Clinton and the election).

When I recently looked up my Senators and Representative for my letter, their sites all proudly proclaimed their Republican affiliation.

Edited to add: I was wrong about that. Just went to David Perdue’s website and it, too, makes no obvious mention of party affiliation. Maybe that’s customary? It’s also funny how I fabricated the clear Republican affiliation that wasn’t there! Weird how our minds can do that!

I do get a kick out of people thinking some Congress Critter from Wisconsin is going to create a law enforcement position on his Congressional Staff to do an end run on the Federal Retirement system.

A wrongful termination case is usually for money damages. If McCabe didn't lose his pension, he couldn't sue for compensation for it. And since there's a good chance he could ultimately lose, suing for injury to his reputation could only hurt him if the termination was upheld.

Maybe better to make up the lost money with a book contract and a speaking tour and a big new job in private industry.

He's not going to be hurting either way. But getting his pension gives him more options.

People will listen to him about Trump. The question is whether he can win a wrongful termination action. Maybe, maybe not.

Congressmen and their staffs are federal employees. He could hire McCabe to answer the phones for a week, and he'd still be covered.
 
Trump has further commented on the firing

He most recently lost to Democrat Jacky Rosen in the November 8, 2016, general election
