The Trump Presidency (Act V - The One Where Everybody Dies)

Looks like Trump is still pushing his nonsense about the dangers of violent video games. I'd hoped that he would get bored and forget about that.

I like that one of the advisers on this believes that cops aren't using enough lethal force. This lunatic also believes that experts who deny the connection between video games and youth violence are no different than Holocaust deniers. This administration's ability to find the worst people to advise on any given issue is breathtaking.

I guess he thinks he has to be seen as doing something in the wake of the recent school shooting, even if that something is completely useless.

I guess he thinks being incompetent (i.e. going after video games) is better than looking non-empathetic (i.e. doing nothing about gun violence).

Even better - guess how many of the scientists who actually research this issue were invited to his "conference?"

According this Rolling Stone article, if you guessed any number other than ZERO, then you are wrong...:boggled:

Trump might be making a big mistake here.
If there is one thing that politicians are stupid for doing, it's trying to come between Americans and their favored forms of entertainment. It never ends well for the politicians.

Trump’s steel tariffs are hated by almost every US industry

Business leaders from nearly every American industry are furious with President Trump right now.

They’ve been pressuring his administration to back off from its plan to add steep tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, which are used to make everything from cars to boats and even soup cans.

But the president has waved off their concerns. On Thursday afternoon, Trump is expected to sign an order directing the Commerce Department to add the 25 percent levy on steel and the 10 percent levy on aluminum. He did say, however, that his administration will exempt Canada and Mexico from the tariffs for a while.

The US steel industry is quite happy about the tariffs.

Almost everyone else is upset.

That's because this isn't about Trump. This is about the perception among his supporters that the USA is their country and that liberals and foreigners
everybody who is not a white Anglo Saxon Christian are taking their country from them. Basically, all Trump's supporters are racist and stupid.

FTFY.

A lot of Trump's supporters are going to be shocked when they find out that in a trade war the other side can hit back..and hard.

It's not like he blamed porn; that would have been too far

As long as it hurts the people they hate, I don't think they care.
Except it may not be the case. The EU is talking about raising tariffs on things like peanut butter (peanuts are grown in the southern U.S.), Harley Davidson motorcycles (they have factories in Wisconson, Kansas City, and Pennsylvania) and Whisky (much of it made in Kentucky). These are areas that mostly favoured Trump in the last election. So the trade war may hurt Trump supporters harder than others.

Now the question is, whether they would be SMART enough to recognize that they lost their jobs because of a Trump-initiated trade war.

Breaking News of the moment:
Major Announcement due in 90 minutes about North Korea. Of course he had to duck his head into the press room to give that teaser.

A note from North Korea was hand-delivered from a South Korean envoy to the White House. This could be either very good or very bad.

Do you want me to tell you the answer to that?

Maybe...and maybe not. A lot of his fans are from the Gamergate crowd, but they were never reasonable to begin with as far as this goes - you want more free speech, so support the guy that wants to loosen libel laws (which he can't do anyway) and has already said he hates video games? Strikes me as the same as the fools who thought he would support recreational cannabis, even as he nominated the KKKeebler elf to Attorney General.

It's the trade war that will likely hit him hardest. Aside from screeching about kneeling NFL players and blathering about the filthy Mexicans and Muslims, the economy is about all he's got. Start up a trade war for no reason, and...
