The Trump Presidency (Act V - The One Where Everybody Dies)

Maybe, for reasons I could not possibly defend, the base thought he gave all that up so he could be their president.

He was never their president, at best he is his president alone - and the base is just losers who want to believe they are loved and helped by him. Boo-hoo-hoo!!!!!!

I feel like modern partisanship borders on religious zealotry. There may not actually be any tipping point if rationality is no longer part of the picture.

I think you are mixing rational with objective standards. There are reasons the rational move is to not agree to a neutral method of arbitration.

According to Johnathan Turley, the bimbo payoffs pose a bigger legal threat than Russia. Go figure.
I figure Turley is going with information in the public-sphere. He wouldn't know what information Mueller has re money laundering, payoffs, blackmail threats of calling loans in and who knows what other campaign finance shenanigans Mueller has evidence of.

Junior goes to India to promote the family business:
Beginning Tuesday, the junior Trump will have a full schedule of meet-and-greets with investors and business leaders throughout India where the Trump family has real estate projects — Mumbai, the New Delhi suburb of Gurgaon and the eastern city of Kolkata.

Indian newspapers have been running full-page, glossy advertisements hyping his arrival and the latest Trump Tower project under the headline: “Trump is here — Are You Invited?” The ads also invited home buyers to plunk down a booking fee (about $38,000) to “join Mr. Donald Trump Jr. for a conversation and dinner.”

The whole family is in the business of collecting for fake charities then keeping the money; and, selling the promise of influence.

Adding to this, I wonder if there aren't actual payments to the Trumps from the oligarchs the same way rich Chinese and now some wealthy Indians are likely being bilked.

Good thing they're being subtle about it.

Surely that would disturb the faithful.

...

...

... nah.

Well yeah, I mean not to put too fine a point on it, his base is stupid.

I will periodically speak up and repeat that that is still missing the whole point.

What's more concerning is that how intelligent people are enthralled by Trump. Many are not stupid, so something else is going on.

"Our side is smart and their side is stupid" gets us nowhere.

OK, so as an intelligent person, which I believe you are, what do you think the attraction is?

There's no doubt racism is in there. And there are all those hypocritical Evangelicals that want to stuff the judiciary with like-minded people. You can count all those issue voters holding their noses.

My question is, why are so many people so easily brain-washed with 'lock her up and crooked Hillary when it wasn't true?

Or, knowing how many people in this thread will argue how horrible the Clintons are, how did supposed smart people believe all of Trump's promises when it wouldn't have taken 15 minutes looking at his history of fraud and bankruptcy to figure out he was a con and a moron.

Do these smart people just lie to themselves? What do you think intelligent people see enthralling in Trump?

Where do you get the idea that his base is not stupid? What piece of information do we have that voters either didn't have in November 2016? We already knew he was a Russian whore by then. We already knew he'd admitted to sexual assault, we knew about the racism. We can say definitively, that if you're in the trump base you're stupid. You were stupid to vote for him and if you stay with him you're stupid and a traitor to you country.

I mean in the common usage of the word not the legal usage of the word traitor. I, unlike the thing in the presidency, know the difference.

I take your point, but it's hard to see how his supporters aren't just hornswaggled. The lower and middle classes are being sold on the tax cuts largely on his say so.

I don't get it. It seems to be wishful thinking from where I sit, and I say this knowing that my family voted for this charlatan.

Because most of us know someone or several people who are Trump supporters, but otherwise are kind, decent, educated people.

I also know at least one anti-vaxer who is not otherwise stupid, and have spoken with intelligent people who have been victimized by 419 scams.

Sometimes smart people do dumb things and hold stupid beliefs.
