The Trump Presidency (Act V - The One Where Everybody Dies)

"Having stonewalled Congress' demands for information for nearly a year, it's no surprise to see the FBI and DOJ issue spurious objections to allowing the American people to see information related to surveillance abuses at these agencies," he said.

Wray and Sessions are stonewalling and issuing spurious objections....

Fascinating.

Maybe the trump administration should appoint their own people to head these rogue agencies....

Both Corsi and Alex Jones blaming the train crash on the Democrats. Claiming it was Domestic Terrorism and a "Deep State counterattack.

I wonder what these folks think about the GOP calling them corrupt and biased? How can they put up with that nonsense?

I think they see the writing on the wall: any open complaint will lead to being put on a list for dismissal when Congress passes the Patriotic Purge Act.

Nunes wouldn't say if the WH contributed to the infamous memo in the first place.
Quigley doesn’t appear to have specific and concrete evidence of White House involvement. What he has is a logical suspicion based on Nunes’ prior behavior and a logical inference based on Nunes’ unwillingness to answer his question. The Daily Beast has more on Nunes’ refusal to answer here. Sarah Sanders also couldn’t answer a direct question about White House involvement....

We need more answers on this. But I strongly suspect both Nunes and the White House have something to hide on this. Indeed, the creation of the memo – regardless of its authors – is part of a broader cover-up. But the origin of the memo itself seems compromised by the White House’s hands.

Listen to Rep Quigley interview on CNN to get the gist about Nunes' answer refusal. Nunes was a bad liar as evidenced by his nighttime charade to the WH earlier in this mess.

Sarah Suckabee used "I don't know" to answer the WH involvement in the memo question.

I think there was supposed to be a transcript of this Intel committee meeting released today. I'll go look for it.

With how the republicans in congress are lining up to slander the FBI, CIA and so on sound about right.

It's going to be a long three years.

Of course I am sure we will have the apologists along any minute to say he didn't mean what he said, as he has no idea what basic words mean like with his clean DACA bill.

To be honest, I think many are quite fine with the request to suspend rule of law, in the interest of a partisan purge.

So now it turns out that the FBI agent Trump got kicked off the Mueller team for bias against him helped restart the probe of the Hillary emails.
Emails obtained by CNN show the FBI agent at the center of a Capitol Hill storm played a key role in a controversial FBI decision that upended Hillary Clinton's campaign just days before the 2016 election: the letter to Congress by then-FBI Director James Comey announcing the bureau was investigating newly discovered Clinton emails.

Could be they are simply trying to get their narrative of the "corrupt FBI" out ahead of the next round of indictments, knowing full well that the majority of people won't follow up by checking facts, but just rely on the first thing they hear.

That's pretty much what I was saying, and have said more explicitly in recent posts. (Mebbe not in this thread, though. They're starting to run together.)

I have to wonder about their end game here.

Seriously, to go after the integrity of the FBI?

Do they not realize that the FBI agents are largely strong republican supporters? And here they are, questioning their integrity?

<snip>

Do you not realize that they actually don't give a damn?

This isn't about facts or truth, it's about getting and keeping political power. The GOP will throw anyone under the bus, lie, cheat, and steal in their obsessive rush to achieve those ends.

They have utterly abandoned even the least effort at a plausible appearance of ethical and moral behavior.

Much less any actual concern for those principles.

From what I've heard, they are...not amused.

My one source of amusement is that the white nationalist Steve Bannon, who likened himself to Darth Vader, turned out to actually be Snoke.

Trump called on Congress to give him unprecedented and unquestionably antidemocratic powers: “Tonight,” he said, “I call on the congress to empower every Cabinet secretary with the authority to reward good workers—and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the American people.”

But dwell on it for a moment, Under Trump’s proposal, any Cabinet secretary could decide that, say, a law enforcement official investigating the president had “undermined the public trust” or “failed the American people”—and fire him on the spot.

Same for the IRS, FBI Department of Justice, or any other federal agency..

Yes, he is asking for the power to purge the government of non-loyalists.

Yep. The protections granted to career civil servants are precisely to block that sort of tinpot dictatorship crap from happening. The basic question is "how far, exactly, is the GOP willing to go to install Toupee Fiasco as a dictator?" Thus far, they've been mostly a pack of cowards and traitors at the federal level. But I'd expect any such proposal (one of very few proposals that the idiot actually made) to be filibustered, if not outright rejected, in the senate.

Trump didn't get him kicked off the team. Mueller reassigned him as soon as he learnt of the anti-Trump texts. Not because there was any hint of impropriety (there wasn't) but because Mueller is so damn professional that he wanted to avoid any possible hint of impropriety.

It's always been the case that the texts are only the smoking gun they've been presented as if a) you believe that FBI agents having political opinions is wrong (it's not), b) you ignore half of them (such as the anti-Sanders ones, or the one in which he expresses only very mild support for Clinton as an "I suppose") and, c) you misinterpret some of them (like the infamous "secret society" one). And it's only been done by people who are using that as the most concrete evidence ever, while simultaneously ignoring or dismissing as nothing things like the multinational consensus that has been Russian interference in elections or referenda, and that Trump has refused to impose sanctions on Russia.

Just to review because it's hard to keep track of so much **** in a single year:

House majority leader to colleagues in 2016: ‘I think Putin pays’ Trump
KIEV, Ukraine — A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.
