The Trump Presidency (Act V - The One Where Everybody Dies)

Is the State of the Union the one where the President stands in front of Congress and they (well, his party, anyway) applaud his every statement?

I'd hope that people on the other side would constantly do the "bull*cough*!" thing.

Morgan obviously followed up by asking what the gibberish meant?

No? thought not.

They should have put Paxman in.

With Trump, it can sometimes be hard to tell when he's lying and when he's merely demonstrating profound ignorance. Does he honestly believe that ice caps are "setting records" in a way that would refute global warming or does he just think that people will buy that? I can't really tell.

Neither. it's just a sequence of words that fell, unfiltered, out of his brain.

Agreed - he no longer seems capable of any sustained coherent speech, they are fragments of thoughts, more like a stream of consciousness than actual thought through ideas.

They would never let anyone who would ask a followup to a nonsensical answer interview the president. You need to be much focused on stroking his ego to pretend his nonsense statements mean nothing.

I sure hope not. It is not the time or place for such incivility. It was bad when whoever shouted "you lie" during Obama's State of the Union and equally so here.

Of course this is trump, no one expects anything he says to have any connection to reality anyway. It is about feelings not facts.

The GOP has established their new standards of decorum and civility.

Since they control Congress and the White House, and practice these standards so assiduously it would only be a sign of our respect for their policies and position of control that we share these with them.

I'd rather just hear the speech without any interruptions from the Peanut Gallery.

At least he's stopped bitching about CFCs stopping him from coating his hair in hairspray. Of course while he was doing that, he seemed to be under the impression that his apartment was hermetically sealed which would have done us all a great favor had it been true.

According to an anonymous source quoted in this article he believes what he says:

"Trump doesn't deal in reality," the source said. "He creates his own reality and he actually believes it."

Of course, take what an unnamed source quoted in the press says with the usual huge dose of salt.

If you were being sarcastic, I missed it. Sorry.

To be sure, I'd rather not hear the speech. I'll read the synopsis and listen to bits and pieces.

Maybe if they are only looking toward the primary voters but I'm sure they are more than a little nervous about how that will play out in Nov.

I think they may have the long game in mind. One of the worst case scenarios for them is a 2018 with a hundred cuts coming out of the investigation every few days, particularly as the election approaches. An October bombshell would be a nightmare.

Ending the investigation asap means that the only thing Democrats can do is complain about the one bad thing, which will get tired in a few months.

While I can't beat this speculation:

I think it's more like the kid who didn't study for the test trying to fake it.

He's so boring when he's reading the teleprompter I wasn't going to watch it. But maybe there might be some potential laughs in the responses.
