Who's going to TAM4?

Looks like none of the cool forum members are going. I plan on attending at the moment so it should add a little cred to the event.

Walt

Make sure you wear a sign so I can "introduce myself to you. I must agree that you'll probably add little to the event.

:D

God, i wish, think you have to be 18 or older though.

Well, no, at least some are bringing their teenage kids (most of which are girls, A-A :D :p ).

But yeah, convincing your parents to let you spend a weekend in Las Vegas with a bunch of adults you have never met.....you might even qualify for the Milion-dollar prize! :jaw-dropp

Don't worry--you're getting older and we're not gong anywhere.

Wow, real life girls.

To be honest, im not rich.

My mother is a christian.....you know how that goes.

James Randi is much too cool for me to lay eyes on......i cant even look at his picture, im not worthy.

She likes those both, and she says it gives the economy a boost.

Its the whole "skeptic" bit.

She also hates magicians because they are the spawn of Satan.

Then tell her Randi et al aren´t real magicians  - it´s all just sleight-of-hand.

If I can get a babysitter for the six days it'll take, I'll be there, and so will the spouse.

I'll be there. Note to anyone who's on the fence: I went to TAM3 on a last minute whim, and really enjoyed it despite not knowing anyone or even really considering myself part of the "skeptic community."

I just registered last night. I will not make it into town until late Thursday evening though. Will I be missing all the fun?

Is Las Vegas big enough for so many skeptics? :re:

I'm going!

Registered and reserved the hotel room minutes ago.

This will be my first TAM, and I'm stoked!

Great news! You really should contact Randi/Linda and see about presenting a paper on your KAz Activities. We had 5-6 papers offered by individuals last year and some were quite interesting. I'd bet they'd love to have you do something. So would we.

Thanks Hutch. A couple of other people have suggested the same thing. Looking at the TAM43 schedule, it looks as though there are only going to be three or four papers presented. Am I reading that right?

Okay, I submitted a paper proposal. Here's the gist of it:
Stopping Kaz – One Skeptic’s Experience Using the Internet to Debunk a Religious Con-artist

Abstract:

For the past year, I have been investigating and debunking the claims of one “Dr. Kaz deMille-Jacobsen”, who speaks at various churches claiming (among other things):

• That she was in the north tower of the World Trade Center when the terrorists struck on September 11th, 2001
• That she escaped via divine intervention
• That in the hospital afterwards, she had a “near-death experience”, during which she went to heaven, met Jesus and God, and was given a “calling”
• That while in heaven, Jesus gave her a rock which NASA has examined and declared “not of this world”

…and the list goes on and on.

I have been aided and encouraged in these efforts by the members of the JREF Forum, where I have given periodic updates on my progress.

My proposed presentation at TAM4 would consist of a condensed version of her claims, the debunking, and most importantly, how I was able to use the Internet to spread the word about this woman, and to gain the help of newspaper and television reporters in exposing her.

I think that often, skeptics see something fraudulent like this, and think “What can I do? I’m just one person.” This presentation would emphasize how one person can use the Internet and media to expose frauds, quacks and con-artists.
I'm not sure it would make sense to someone who hasn't been following the story on the forums, but it's a shot.
