I've already said in no uncertain terms that I have no opinion about whether or not the expense of the building is warranted, and was making no comment relating to that. I don't understand why you persist in responding as if I was being critical of the price.

And I can only admire that someone was able to pay for a $1 billion dollar building with $481 million. Can't complain about that. :p

Five acres isn't all that impressive. The Pentagon has a five acre courtyard. Inside the building. The building itself adds another 28 acres to that.

This is an aside, but...

It's worth pointing out that the Pentagon was built in IIRC the 1940s, and for that reason alone was far less expensive than most modern buildings - when you AC consists of "Open a window.", you're going to save a lot compared to more modern centralized HVAC designs. The entire building was essentially gutted and refurbished in more recent years to address this and many other modernization issues, making the initial price pretty much meaningless as far as direct comparison goes.

Also, I can't even imagine the price DoD would want to spend on a new headquarters located anywhere close to DC. However, given the processes and requirements in place today, I'm guessing the price would dwarf that of the new embassy in London, and would likely be what many would call a "boondoggle":D .

Not an attack on you, but I think it's worth pointing these matters out if you're going to make a comparison.

Boris our Foreign Secretary and Cabinet Minister responds.

"The US is the biggest single investor in the UK - yet Khan & Corbyn seem determined to put this crucial relationship at risk. We will not allow US-UK relations to be endangered by some puffed up pompous popinjay in City Hall."

"Puffed up pompous popinjay" is no "nattering nabobs of negativism", but it's pretty good.

Between 1994 and 2011, $4.5 billion was spent on renovations to the Pentagon. Repairs after 9/11 cost $500 million.

Pretty much says it all right there.

Any number of people can be saved or killed by handing out some portion of resources taken from others. Few people are saying maximize the latter to save the most. Since we are all making choices to kill people, saying this policy does won't distinguish it from other policies.

Are you expecting a cookie for this pedantry? Or did you think this was some revelation you were handing down to us?

It isn't pedantry to point out squeegee's statement has no meaningful distinction between any policy. It isn't a revelation. It is something squeegee seems bereft of.

Fox has taken up the latest torch: Trump says not racism, just tough words (after denying he said "s-hole countries" failed  ). Fox News this morning is going with, libruls are upset a curse word was used, ignoring the racism issue altogether.

Same thing with the Access Hollywood tape, as if people were just upset about the "locker room" words that he used to describe his sexual assaults.

2 Democrats are looking to censure Trump

Two top House Democrats said Friday they will unveil a resolution next week to censure President Trump following reports he expressed a preference for immigrants from Norway over people from what he described as “******** countries” like Haiti, El Salvador and African nations.

Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Cedric Richmond (D-La.) and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, expect to formally introduce the censure resolution after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

The two lawmakers said in a joint statement that they were “deeply disturbed and offended” by Trump’s remarks describing places like Haiti and African nations as “******** countries.”

A charity started by Eric Trump poured nearly $150,000 into properties owned by his father President Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

New tax filings for The Curetivity Foundation (formerly known as The Eric Trump Foundation) show $145,145 was paid from money it raised to the president's Mar-a-Lago golf club in Florida, the former Trump SoHo Hotel in New York, and others.
