Cont: The Trump Presidency Part IV

This is an interesting excerpt from the article;

In Thursday morning’s meeting of House Republicans, lawmakers reacted with palpable consternation to Trump’s initial tweet, according to attendees. The anxiety continued until House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) stood up and handed his cellphone to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who read aloud the president’s second tweet voicing support for the bill.
Even Congressional Republicans get their information from Trump via Twitter?

Trump really is operating a government by tweet.

Besides the language and the racism Trump also seem to be oblivious to the fact that people coming from ****hole countries describes pretty much the entire history of immigration to the USA. Maybe someone should explain that 19th century Irish immigrants didn't come to the USA because they wanted to enjoy the kickass St Patrick's Day parades?

Two news stories about the POTUS, both terrible and still no demands for his removal.

He is vindictive by targeting only Obama over the embassy and racist with his attitudes to certain countries.

Why is he still the POTUS? Is there no vote of confidence? No British PM would survive either of these stories, let alone both, let alone all the crap Trump has been up to.

Keith Boykin asks

When did you know Trump was racist?

1. Housing discrimination
2. Central Park 5
3. Birtherism
4. Called Mexicans drug dealers
5. Ban on Muslims
6. Pardoned Joe Arpaio
7. Nazis are “very fine people”
8. Endorsed slave-supporter Roy Moore
9. Called black countries “*********”

Sort of. Trump tweeted:
Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!

Here is Jake tappers twitter clarification:
The president did not refer to Haiti as a “◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊” country according to the source familiar with the meeting… though he DID say it about countries in Africa...
What happened, the source says, is there was a conflation of two different remarks by the president. 2/
First, when talking about “temporary protected status” countries as part of the immigration deal it was mentioned that Salvadorans, Hondurans and Haitians have that status. 3/
“Haitians?” the president said. “Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out” —- meaning take them out of the deal.
Then in a separate part of the conversation when they were referencing the diversity visa lottery, President Trump referred to people coming from Africa as coming from “◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ countries.”
Again, I’m not saying this is better. Just that this is what happened, per my source. 5/

Well.

That is certain.y a relief. I thought for a moment that The Trump was being highly unprofessional.

But it turns out that he didn't call Haiti a **** hole.

He just called every country on the continent of Africa **** holes.

Imagine my relief.

Trump says that these poor countries are ********* and therefore those people are worthless, and you think the argument is over whether or not they're *********?

I think it's two issues. The biggest is, of course, the insult to the people and the claim that they are unworthy to enter this country because they come from home nations with problems. That's a vile but predictable representation of Trump's well-known biases.
But there's also the second issue that this is the POTUS insulting countries that - whatever their massive flaws and defects - we have serious and developing trade and security relationships with. His tactless insults can poison future negotiations and cost us in ways that have nothing to do with the immigration issues he's obsessed with. Even if the characterization is valid it's still a stupid way to squander a relationship.

Facts-schmacts

In any case, although the decision to sell was taken in 2009, there may have been some movement on price since then because of the decision to grant the old embassy building listed status:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embassy_of_the_United_States,_London

Of course even if the Bush administration did agree the price, it's still the Obama administration's fault for not attempting to shakedown the developers for a better price.

President Trump has tried similar re-negotiation tactics since he has been in office, with predictably poor results. What works for a seedy-cheesy New York property developer (bilking and stiffing partners and suppliers) doesn't work when you're running with the international Big Dogs...
Come on, why bother with this ruse. Trump made racists comments, the UK and or whoever predicted riotous protests if Trump comes to the UK. That's all that's going on here. The rest is just clutter to hide the facts.

12. When Woody Guthrie wrote a song about how racist Trump’s Dad was.

Haiti. Norway. Only one real difference? Is that sanitation? GDP? That an immigrant would be leaving a well provided welfare state rather than going to a more generous welfare system?

He's said plenty of outrageous things, but this ain't one of them.

Well, if we had any doubts about your POV, we don't now.

The snowball is rolling down the hill today and right before the MLK holiday. Have a nice weekend, you might want to avoid the news.

Cotton and Purdue, Republicans in the room: Lalalalalala we didn't hear him.

That's not going to cut it. They should have just kept their mouths shut.

Trump is leaving some event with reporters in the room shouting, "Are you a racist?" He ignores the shouts and makes a point of talking to and shaking hands with the one black guy in the room he passes.

Now, what could I say to get this Wolff book out of the news cycle? Hmm, let me think...
Part of me say, "Bingo"

And part of me says, nah, he blurted out something stupid because he is that stupid. The fact this crap comes out every day is why the Wolff book has scrolled out of the news cycle.

After this, truly, there is no argument to be made that you can support Trump and be a loyal American. That wedge should be driven between Trump supporters and real, patriotic Americans.

This would be a good angle for 2020. The DNC won't do it, of course, but it would still be a good angle.
