But then, he assured everyone that his position didn't matter, anyway, and that the meeting was a total waste of time; he said he'll sign any bill that the Republicans can ramrod through congress.

No, Trump thinks it was a great success: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/950862709599465472

Thanks to all of the Republican and Democratic lawmakers for today’s very productive meeting on immigration reform. There was strong agreement to negotiate a bill that deals with border security, chain migration, lottery and DACA. http://45.wh.gov/POTUS45

I (among many other people) was surprised at how relatively balanced the cabinet meeting/press conference went yesterday. The PDJT was even getting compliments from CNN!

Then he started tweeting today... Back to "real" reality.

So does Trump just not eat food cooked at the White House? Is it always McDonalds? What does the new book say about this?

News flash, everyone thinks FL got an exception to oil drilling off its shores because Republicans asked Trump. Anyone consider it's because Mir-a-Lago is there?

You're not the only one who's thought that.

Another possibility is that it is an attempt to bolster a potential senate run for Republican Rick Scott.

Although Trump may have made a big mistake in exempting Florida...

...lawmakers from other states took to Twitter to raise the specter of lawsuits, which could lead to courtroom entanglements for Interior’s offshore drilling plan....“Under the Administrative Procedure Act, an agency can't act in an arbitrary and capricious manner. In this case, exempting Florida but not California (which has an even larger coastal economy) is arbitrary and capricious,” Rep. Ted Lieu, a California Democrat and attorney, told POLITICO.

As John Cleese notes today

Based on Trump's televised meeting, that although he's still muddled and self-contradictory and pulling a lot of faces, there's evidence that someone is beginning to get his meds right

Yes. That is clearly the reason. End of discussion.
Well, you have an administration who is hyper-partisan and regularly engages in immoral behavior (lies, coverups, etc.)

You have a president who has been extremely defensive regarding his own properties (such as applying to have a seawall built to protect a golf course in Ireland, citing concerns about global warming, even though Trump claims its a "hoax".)

You have a decision which seems completely arbitrary. (Exempt Florida because of possible economic problems, while other coastal states also have economies that would suffer in the event of an oil spill).

Under those conditions, I think its natural for people to try to identify ways that the decision was done as a way to benefit only those in charge.

Trump tweets

"We are going to take a strong look at our country's libel laws ... You can't say things that are false, knowingly false, and be able to smile as money pours into your bank account."

Says a man who insisted that Obama was born in Kenya and that his birth certificate was fake.

...and he's right. I wouldn't call that poopface grin a smile.

Today Trump characterized the investigation into his conduct as the "single greatest Witch Hunt in American history". This in a country that has literal, fatal witch hunts in its history.

Not the Onion:
“Welcome back to the studio,” Trump said as he began his address from the Cabinet Room. He proceeded to revisit his list of triumphs — as he perceives them — such as the GOP tax reform bill, the stock market’s performance, and jobs creation.

Eventually, Trump bragged about how allowing the media to film his bipartisan immigration negotiations yesterday with several members of Congress. The discussions drew rare praise from his critics and complaints from his base. Naturally, Trump was more focused today on the former.
“It was a tremendous meeting, actually. It was reported as incredibly good, and my performance…got great reviews from everybody other than two networks who were phenomenal for about two hours. Then after that they were called by their bosses who said “oh, wait a minute” and unfortunately, a lot of those anchors sent us letters saying that was one of the greatest meetings they’ve ever witnessed.”
Trump finished off his riff with his oft-repeated line about how the media will only say positive things about him by 2020 — because ratings will tank if he loses his reelection bid.

Watching a self-absorbed, delusional game show host pretend to run the country is so entertaining.

"one of the greatest meetings they’ve ever witnessed.”

Can we get a source please Mr Trump?

The Trump administration has waived part of the punishment for five megabanks whose affiliates were convicted and fined for manipulating global interest rates. One of the Trump administration waivers was granted to Deutsche Bank — which is owed at least $130 million by President Donald Trump and his business empire, and has also been fined for its role in a Russian money laundering scheme.

he waivers were issued in a little-noticed announcement published in the Federal Register during the Christmas holiday week.

I'm not sure he'd make the Top 10 in the metaphorical category, either. Both Clintons would beat him, for sure.
