No I think it is silly fad that manged to be anoying. IPUism is much less of a problem most of the time (if we exclude the fight over what picture to use in the article).

I wouldn't call it a "silly fad." I'm sure nobody really believes in the FSM. It's a satirical joke that made its point well, but which seems to have got a little out of hand. I certainly don't think it's worth a Wikipedia entry.

Hmm What odds do you give on it being any more significant than say "all your base are belong to us"? It is a clasic preaching to the converted

I'm yet to see any evidence that it has really succeeded in makeing it's point. The problem is that many people think that there is a legit scientific disspute over intelligant design. For these people FSM is not a parralell case


I certainly don't think it's worth a Wikipedia entry.

That really depends on what you would qualify as "more significant". The FSM phenomenon is all about what your children are taught in school, by law, whereas All Your Base was all about a bunch of photoshoppers having their fun parodying an old Sega game. Besides the fact that they both became cult, I fail to see the further correlation.

That may have been the orignal idea. Much of the effort does not appear to be going in that direction. Both are internet memes and both have very little substance and at least AYBABTU was slightly original.

Polling evidence showing a decrease in support for teaching ID in schools would be a start.

The chances of that are pretty much zero.

Wether you like it or not ID sounds scientific to most people. Indeed if something in biology was found to be irreducibly complex then it might have a scientific case. Therefor trying to parady it with something that clearly doesn't sound scientific is a little odd. Something along the lines of "Transgressing the Boundaries: Toward a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity" (although of course changed to suit the context) would be far more logical.

'Those people' will be shown to be incorrect. ID is a political tool of the bible literalists.
Logically and evidentially FSM, IPU, Tacoism, and any literalist religion are equivalent.

I did that a while ago. And then slowly discovered that there was nothing I'd thought up as parody that they hadn't already used for real. I was particularly proud of the bit about the speed of light magically changing to save the appearances for the 6,000 y/o Universe. But, alas, some fundie thought it up before me, and felt prouder still...

At this point I decided that not only is parody futile, but word-for-word quotation is a lot less work.
