Comatose Italian Claims He Heard Everything

Comatose Italian Claims He Heard Everything
If he's comatose, what's he doing making claims?

If you woke up from a long sleep and people said, "You were in a coma", then wouldn't you say, "Now I've heard everything"?

Wow, they seem to be equating coma with PVS.

Has it been shown that a comatose patient has no perception? Last I remember there was contention. I never figured it was possible.

I believe anyone waking from a coma would be very humbled and in no mood to lie.

Seems reasonable that parts of the brain could be severed while sensory regions are intact. That's typical of communication disorders.

While a coma does hinder communication, I don't think it can effectively be called a communication disorder.

He is quoted as saying that his "miraculous" recovery proves euthanasia cannot be justified for coma patients.
He seems in a mood to argue politics/policy.

I don't know much about the comatose state, so I'm suspending judgement until I can dig around a bit.

Yeah? Well if he squeals he's going right back in, and you can tell him Fat Tony told him that!

Um, there are various states of apparent unconsciousness where the patient can hear and even see, but not move or make noise to let anyone know he's conscious.

For example, when someone is extremely stoned, or has just been to the dentist, or has just had sex with me.

I don't doubt that it's possible for a comatose person to hear, even to see, at least in some cases.

But I'm suspicious of the claims of this particular individual that he actually heard and saw things. Perhaps his memories are inaccurate, or he's deliberately lying.

And, of course, his political activities are necessarily suspect.

Ah, you're talking about George W. Bush now, aren't you.
