Merged The Roy Moore Batcrap Crazy Remark Thread/Roy Moore Is Done

A Doug Jones Supporter Misspoke. Alabama’s Republican Secretary of State Launched a Voter Fraud Investigation.

For many Alabama voters, the administration of last Tuesday’s special election was a disaster. Republican Secretary of State John Merrill refused to prepare for high turnout, leading to confusion and long lines; poll workers spread misinformation at understaffed precincts; and some citizens were initially denied a ballot due to a recent “refresh” of the voter rolls. But Merrill does not plan to investigate the calamitous (and possibly illegal) glitches that his office is supposed to be responsible for addressing. Instead, he has chosen to launch a frivolous, partisan investigation based on one ambiguous quote.

Roy is determined to put on the biggest pair of clownshoes he can find, still will not concede:

Quite frankly I'm a bit concerned. This seems to be standard GOP operating procedure.

  1. Get a nutjob to say something ridiculous
  2. The GOP leadership can say how ridiculous it is
  3. A few more join the choir
  4. The GOP says that it's not the party position but they wouldn't deny free speech
  5. After a while the "nutjob" position becomes mainstream
  6. The GOP accepts it as fact and acts accordingly

IMO we're at stage 3 now. At stage 6 the result will be nullified and a do-over will be called

This is perfectly normal.

I don't think Moore will ever get the Senate seat. He can, however, contribute to the Republican Party's effort to de-legitimatize the election, perhaps leading to a second special election. At a minimum, they can distract and pseudo-investigate things to delay certification as long as they can.

There are too many Roy Moore threads. I posted that link in one of the other threads a day or two ago.

Why do people care about his whining?
Is there some legal requirement to this concede business?

The longer he keeps it up, the greater the risk that there will be some momentum built up behind a GOP attempt to overturn the result (for *reasons*) and then re-run the election with a less child-molesty GOP candidate who will then go on to win.

Crescent has provided a link to an attempt already under way to challenge the result. Right now AFAIK the mainstream GOP isn't yet ready to leap on that bandwagon but give it a little more time and they may be persuaded.

A few posts upthread I've suggested a 6 point plan to achieve this. I reckon we're at point 3 :(

No, not at all. It's mostly just polite. But Roy, Gawd being on his side and all, will be whining about Muslim Commie Illegals voting for the remainder of his life. And he'll get a lot of idiots to believe him.

Thanks, I see.
As long as their acting up is not punished by voters demanding some measure of common decency they are likely to keep doing it.

I hope he never concedes. Some of his supporters have now turned against Trump for acknowledging the loss. Keep stoking that fire, dudes.

I suspect that I am not alone in fearing that the USA has increasingly become the stereotype of a "banana republic" in which the "wrong" election results (those that displease the individuals in power) are questioned, then not certified for one reason or another. In the interest of "fair elections" the election is rerun until the "right" results are obtained. Or re-districting to assure the "right" results.

At least it is unlikely that Jones will meet with "an unfortunate accident."
