I see a longer game at play here. After a month or so, the GOP can declare that maybe there were many, many irregularities and that the result isn't safe. They'll call for another election, put up Strange instead, and win.

The public will believe it because they've been told that there were problems with the election. At first it'll only be Moore but eventually the majority of the GOP will - in the same way they did with his candidacy - by mid-January McConnell will be calling for a do-over. :rolleyes:

This is a version of voter caging, it was also used in several states when GW ran.
the state government first sent nonforwardable postcards to all 3.3 million Alabama voters containing their voter registration information. If the information was accurate, voters were asked to merely “retain” the card. If the information was inaccurate, they were asked to mark return to sender and drop it back in the mail. The state then sent a second, forwardable postcard to everyone whose first card was returned by the post office as undeliverable. That second postcard asked voters to update their information.

Alabamians who did not respond to this second postcard were, per Merrill’s plan, to be placed on the inactive list. ...

To put it another way: If Alabama is listing voters as inactive because they didn’t respond to one or both postcards—but neither was returned to sender—it is probably breaking federal law.

No - There is no conspiracy to seat Moore.

They may be an effort to prevent Jones from being seated, with hopes that will lead to another special election. Or, at a minimum, delay Jones from being seated for as long as possible, giving Strange time to vote on as many bills as he can before being replaced.

Not to mention half of them are relieved Moore lost, why would they challenge the outcome?

Because it is not about Moore.

The GOP views that Senate seat as theirs. They want their guy in it. If that guy turns out to be Moore, they'll swallow their pride (and morality, and ethics) and welcome him.

But....

They also know that Moore is probably done. They'll try to get someone else in that seat, probably Strange.

It is not about Moore, it is about a GOP Senate seat.

There's no possible way to get someone else in the seat until the next election for the seat.

CNN doesn't seem to think the timing of seating Jones is unusual.

Why the delay?
Each of the 67 counties will have until December 22 to report the results to the Alabama secretary of state's office.
After receiving the results, the State Canvassing Board -- which includes the governor, secretary of state and attorney general -- will have until January 3 to certify them. Alabama law requires at least two of the three members to be present for the certification.
The secretary of state's office told CNN before the election they expect to certify the results between December 27-29. That is contingent upon every county reporting their results on time. The office noted that a delay from one of the 67 counties could delay final certification.
Assuming all results are reported on time, Alabama can notify the Senate immediately, which would allow the winner to be sworn in at that time.
The governor and secretary of state must sign and send the secretary of the Senate a certificate of election for the new senator, according to rule two of the Standing Rules of the Senate.
Unfortunately for Jones, the Senate should be out of session at that point. It is expected to be in recess on December 22 or earlier -- depending on how it handles the tax bill and funding for the federal government. It is scheduled to reconvene on January 3 -- the last day the state has to legally certify the results.
The one caveat is if congressional negotiators fail to reach a deal on government spending and Congress is forced to stay in session between Christmas and New Year's Day. While that is a possibility, chances are greater that Congress would agree to keep the government funded until sometime in early January, allowing lawmakers and their staffs to be home over the holidays.
The vice president, in his role as president of the Senate, typically swears in new senators. A surrogate can be designated, should he become unavailable to perform this duty. He will administer the oath, in which the senator-elect promises to "support and defend the Constitution."
Once the oath is taken, Jones will officially be a senator.

I know almost nothing about horses but even I could see that he was hurting the horses mouth. The narrator does his best to crap on but he does eventually get the detail of the mishandling presented.

I do feel sorry for the horse. It knew what it was in for the moment Moore arrived to mount it.

Perhaps that video was enough evidence to convince 1% of the voters to not support Moore.
