Sadly, I suspect many of the Fox News crowd will still eat this crap right up.

A woman approached The Post with dramatic — and false — tale about Roy Moore

A woman who falsely claimed to The Washington Post that Roy Moore, the Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Alabama, impregnated her as a teenager appears to work with an organization that uses deceptive tactics to secretly record conversations in an effort to embarrass its targets.

In a series of interviews over two weeks, the woman shared a dramatic story about an alleged sexual relationship with Moore in 1992 that led to an abortion when she was 15. During the interviews, she repeatedly pressed Post reporters to give their opinions on the effects that her claims could have on Moore’s candidacy if she went public.

The Post did not publish an article based on her unsubstantiated account. When Post reporters confronted her with inconsistencies in her story and an Internet posting that raised doubts about her motivations, she insisted that she was not working with any organization that targets journalists.

But on Monday morning, Post reporters saw her walking into the New York offices of Project Veritas, an organization that targets the mainstream news media and left-leaning groups. The organization sets up undercover “stings” that involve using false cover stories and covert video recordings meant to expose what the group says is media bias.

What is there it eat up? The Post didn't publish the story as fact, rather they declared it fake and outed the claimant. I suspect the Right will steer clear of it because it shows that the Post vets their stories well and can figure out the imposters from the reliable sources. If they touch it at all it'll be to claim that it's fake news by the Post to try and make it seem like they vet their stories properly, but I'm not sure they'll even go there because it could backfire, better to just ignore it.

Frankly, at this point I think they'll just lie about it. Blatant lies about reality are the driving force behind the Trump phenomenon, as far as I can tell.

I hear from people (the best people) that reporters were gathering fake information about Moore. Everyone is talking about it.

I just read the Post story reprinted in the Chicago Tribune. Classic. But amazingly stupid. The woman left a web page up on GoFundme that said she was going to work in New York for a media organization committed to defeating liberals.

Nobody's ever accused the Veritas crowd of being brain surgeons, but when you have a large group of people who will simply believe whatever they're told (because LIEBERALS amirite?!), you don't need to be smart. You just need to be sleezy.

I think that mainstream right-wing media sources like Infowars and Breitbart might avoid it, but that won't stop the powerful forces of alt-right social media from spreading it. James O'Keefe is a major hero to those guys.

It's really revealing that the pinnacle of conservative investigative journalism is basically the world's ********* secret shopper. At least this time it appears an innocent person will not lose their job over selective editing.

Until their next one...

Seriously, when was the last time these clowns actually pulled one of these off?

Yea, but when your cover is blown by a simple Google search it's laughable. Do they really think so little of the Washington Post that they believe that WaPo doesn't do the bare minimum of fact checking?

"Washington Post Admits Being Tricked Into Interviewing Fake Victim of Roy Moore"

Pretty much this. Even if she was discredited before it ever went to print, they'll still spin is as the WP interviewing a person making fake accusations against Moore. FAKE accusation against Moore. Just keep repeating that over and over.

The fact that the accusations were done with the clear intent to obfuscate the issue will drop away, all that the conservative blogsphere will remember is that a MSM was associated with fake accusations.

The sorry thing is that she couldn't even get the reporter to say that her claims would take Moore down. Nor only did the Post not print her claims, she couldn't even get anything to distort to show that they were out to get him.

That's really what they wanted, and failed.

Now, an honest observer would conclude that the Post acted with the utmost integrity. But that would take someone honest.
