Kevin Spacey accused of sexual assault on minor......and he's gay

Richard Dreyfuss's son says Spacey groped him during a script reading with his father in the room! There's creepy behavior, and there's just plain crazy. To take that kind of risk? Spacey might have been getting off on the possibility of being caught, as well. Or maybe he's literally insane. Maybe he has a vascular condition that he can't simultaneously have blood supply in both brain and erection?

I know for certain that there are people who find the possibility of being caught doing something sexual, or simply being naked, really exciting in by itself rather than actually being caught. It's the thrill of doing something that you shouldn't be doing that people sometimes experience.

Of course it's also quite possible, if not likely, that his behavior is at least partially compulsive and could be described as a part of a sexual addiction.

The most horrifying thing I've read today was someone speculating that perhaps the elder Dreyfuss was pretending not to notice that his son was being repeatedly groped. I find the idea all but impossible to believe but it truly sent chills down my spine.

BTW, Here's a link to the story.

Spacey is obviously a creep and will try it on with anyone he wants regardless of social context and will use his position/status to obtain the sex he wants - which is in my moral code wrong (but not illegal) but what it certainly isn't is the same as accusations of rape and sexual assault.

I've read that story and I'm happy to accept it on face value but with this one I am struggling to find anything beyond Spacey being a sexual lech. The young man in question was over 18, so in the UK was over the age of consent by two years and despite the framing of the story did have many ways to respond.

You can put your hand on someones crotch in the UK?

From what I've read and heard I don't get any indication that he has any kind of pathology apart from being a creep, or he may suffer from this:

Can we get to the bottom of the mystery virus streaking through Hollywood?

Tbh personally imagine it isn't really a virus.

It's just the one industry that is so full of suck ups, pandering enablers and old boys clubs desperate to keep/grow there career it has become just part of the tapestry.

Can't think of another that would match it for fake bull#### except may modelling/fashion

Before the internet most relationships started in the workplace.

I am well aware of that. It's not the Internet that made it dangerous to start relationships in the workplace, but sexual harassment laws. Violate those laws at your own risk.

At least according to Swedish law this would not be true. In order for it to constitute assault there needs to be physical pain and/or damage. Simply picking someone up, grabbing them, pushing, pulling, holding or restraining someone would be considered battery (ofredande) instead of assault (misshandel).

Of course people aren't usually charged with battery unless it's done repeatedly or as a part of more general harassment in large part because people don't report it to the police.
It's pretty much the same in the US, without other aggravating factors, it would be unlikely to be reported. Nevertheless, it would still be considered a crime, even without injuries. For example, if a couple were having a heated verbal argument, the neighbors called the police, and the police discovered that one party threw the other party down on the bed, it would be pursued as a domestic violence assault regardless of any injuries. Even though it sounds rather harmless, it still constitutes a crime in the US.

Without the other person saying it's okay?
Yes. But that is a yes in the course of the usual way people interact when exploring a possible physical act. It would be a no if - for example - someone walked up to someone they didn't know and had no way of telling if the person would be fine with that.

People will of course will from time to time make mistakes in judging if an act is appropriate in a given situation but that is not what appears to be the case in regards to the accusations made against Spacey by several people. His actions don't seem to be explained by an occasional mistake or a misreading of the situation.

I'm sure it can be legal to grab someone's crotch or butt without their explicit verbal or written consent in most places. I'd hate to live in a country where you can't even fondle your partner without them explicitly having agree with it beforehand.

Over the course of my career I’ve had to undergo various psychological evaluations to qualify for certain jobs. I think the most common version is referred to as an MMPI.

I can’t speak to the validity of the test, but i do recall it being comprised of many odd questions, one of which this conversation reminded me of.

I recall the question was “Have you ever fantasized about raping someone or being raped?”

After the test I asked the administrator about that specific question, and was told that answering “yes” was considered a typical answer. So I don’t know that this applies to “most of the human race” but apparently it applies to a large enough portion of the population that answering yes isn’t considered abnormal.

I'd be fascinated to know what sort of rarefied career would merit this sort of "testing."

Your partner isn't usually what is meant when you say "someone."

I always thought Kevin Spacey one of the best actors I had ever seen, after seeing him on a West End stage (the name of the play escapes me now). IIRC it was Eugene O'Neill's 'The Iceman Cometh'.

Why are people only coming out of the woodwork now? Why didn't they complain at the time?

You are well intended, Arcade22, but please, I don't need proof that the phenomenon exists, I just have difficulties grasping the concept, which is why I suggested that it might be better suited for a poll: How many of you guys find the idea of having sex with an unwilling partner a turn-on?

I've met more than one woman who found the illusion of forced sex arousing.

I don't think that I could possibly maintain an erection if I as much as imagined that the person I was with might be even slightly reluctant, albeit consensual, and not because I ever had problems in that area so far, knock on wood, no pun intended … :)

And I can't imagine that I'm the only one who feels this way.

Some people like licking eyeballs, others have a thing for feet. If you can imagine it, someone finds it arousing.

So have I - also more than one.
And I couldn't/wouldn't accommodate them. It would have turned me off to try, or it might have made me laugh at the setup, which would probably have turned them off as well.

No, in spite of Huffington Post's 46 Sexual Fetishes You've Never Heard of (which is also a lie, by the way, since most of us have heard about several of them), it's pretty easy to imagine something that doesn't turn anybody on, but even it weren't, it still wouldn't explain anything.
