Hell, listening to him complaining that he can't force the Justice department to target Hillary, as well as him tweeting about how the New York attacker should either recieve the death penalty or be sent to Guantanamo, I'm surprised he's bothered with any judicial nominations at all.
His ignorance about government is astounding.

And it also says he imagined himself a dictator before running for office and continues to see himself with those powers despite the roadblocks.

Wrong. It's not because they need a win on tax cuts. It's because they never actually cared about the debt beyond it being something to attack democrats on. Reagan, Bush, and now Trump. Debt, Debt, Debt.

Indeed, indeed. The trick since Reagan to inflate growth figures. Bread for today, hunger for tomorrow. Heck, anyone can stop paying all their bills, max out the credit cards, and go on a binge, especially when you can blame everything on toothless Dems when the bills come due; Dems who are too damned polite to bitch and moan about the whole sham operation.

HELL NO!!!

I don't want him turned into some tin martyr.

I want him to crash and burn. Spend lots of hard time behind bars in disgrace. Paupered and begging on the street if he ever gets out. (Which he shouldn't, at least not until he is helpless and bed-ridden.)

I want him to crash so hard that he takes everyone who has been aiding and abetting him down with him. Unemployable. Let them spend some time finding out how easy a ride it is to be on welfare and Medicaid.

I want to see anyone who ever championed Trump as fit for public office as part of their own political aspirations to be so thoroughly discredited and stigmatized that they couldn't get elected to scrub sewers on a ballot of one.

^^^^^^THIS!

I must admit that I haven't watched any of the confirmation proceedings for any of Trump's judicial nominees. Do the Democrats ever ask them their opinions about any of the President's more... questionable positions like this?

No. Just no. The death of democracy is the use of violence for political change. We're better off suffering through The Hair's stupidity, trusting the strength of our institutions to be greater than the personalities that run them. Trump has already introduced violence to our political process; it would be a shame for the rest of us to follow his example.

I beg to differ. His ignorance is not astounding. Everyone knew from late 2015 when it started running for office that it was ignorant of how government or the world actually works. Being astounded by its stupidity lets supporters who knew its failings and voted for it anyway off the hook.

I agree...for now.
But if Trump openly uses violence to try to surpress his enemies, then we have to look at the use of force in self defense....

Why don't you just say "Americans are a bunch of idiots" and be done with it.
And the Dems don't mind running up the bill either. Both parties are total hypocrites when it comes to the deficit.

He said this today in regards to unfilled positions in the State Department:

"Let me tell you, the one that matters is me, I'm the only one that matters because when it comes to it that's what the policy is going to be."

Authoritarian? Narcissistic? Or a toxic brew of both?

A toxic brew of both. I think Ezra Klein summed it up succinctly with, "Trump ran for president because he wanted the (absolute) power he thought came with the job, not the job that actually comes with the (limited) power." He wanted to be King and ended up president.

Allow me. Americans collectively are a bunch of idiots. As evidence I offer the government that they have chosen. And I am not referring solely to republicans.

But for now, he's been checked by the courts. He's been checked by the Justice Department and by the Congress. The checks and balances seem to be working.

Look, every country everywhere can produce the Brown Shirts. You can always get the failures in the majority ethnicity who aren't smart enough to understand that their failure is their own fault that will follow a Hitler, or Mussolini or Trump. To really take over, you need the military, industrialists and civil society. Trump isn't good enough to attract the professional military or civil society and industry can't be bothered with him. Our society isn't collapsing. Everything intended to keep society from collapsing is working and Trump is in check. Let's not panic here yet.

I disagree. On the big things, perhaps. Otherwise, with regard to appointments (and the work they’re doing), policy directives, slow-but-steady weakening - if not dismantling - of government function and protection, not to mention relentless attacks on the news/journalism media, academics, the judiciary and other institutions, and on to providing encouragement to racists, conspiracy theorists, bigots, and sexists, and let’s not forget the daily damage being inflicted on international relationships and their cooperative byproducts, and...well, I could go on, but you no doubt know of what I’m referring.

Death by a thousand cuts is still death.

One of the things Trump doesn't understand about how government and state bureaucracies function is that he can't simply decide policies and then expect that, just as if by magic, things happen according to his wishes.

I've read how Trump's underlings have been caught by surprise when he makes some public statement on what his government is going to do and have to work overtime so they can show off something even if it's really very very little. You need people to turn abstract orders and rules into concrete actions. You need even more people to make sure that things happen more or less consistently and predictably. Now add the people you want to review how successful or not the implementation is, what improvements can be made and so forth you start needing a lot of people.

Invariably there are problems and often they are obvious but sometimes subtle critical issues exist. In order to make sure that such problems are detected and worked around beforehand you will want plenty of knowledgeable professionals and experts to have input. What effect will this decision have compared this one?

Trump gesticulating and blathering about how he's going to make America great again isn't a concrete plan of action. Of course he doesn't care about that and really neither did his voters. Now they will suffer for their stupidity

But will it kill us in four years? He can appoint justices to the courts. Congress can check him. He can not fill positions in the departments, those jobs will still need to be done. He's attacked journalists but the FCC has said no; NBC still broadcasts. Judges still block his orders and the agencies comply. We're not at a point where we have one person one party rule yet.
