Apart from executive pay related to the stock price, an individual and not a company benefit, the industry is not necessarily richer, only the investors, who are largely outsiders. True, new stock issues benefit any company, but somehow I don't think Trump was referring to that. Further, of course stock prices rise under the perspective of increased sales, as in any industry. Well this is the same guy who said the recent increases in the stock market has reduced the national debt. And that health insurance costs a few bucks a month when you are young and you get nice insurance when you are old. For a billionaire businessman he is remarkably ignorant as to how these things actually work. Literally as dumb as some random bar room drunk spouting off nonsense to his dumb **** barfly friends.

You (I think) have mentioned that principle before. I'm all for charity, but it wears pretty thin pretty quickly when you have to apply it so frequently to the elected head of your country.

So he's not really denying that Trump came off as being disrespectful and callous. He's not showing any proof either that Trump alleged he had (witness testimony isn't proof mind you) or that the congresswoman "totally fabricated" the contents of the call.

His problem is he's a sociopath that doesn't understand sympathy or empathy. An individual that exists solely for themselves cannot understand sacrifice as he demonstrated last year.

Pressed by Stephanopoulos to identify the sacrifices he made for his country, Trump said, "I think I've made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I've created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I've had tremendous success. I think I've done a lot."

President Donald Trump's nominee to be the White House senior adviser for environmental policy in 2016 described the belief in "global warming" as a "kind of paganism" for "secular elites."

Trump last week nominated Kathleen Hartnett White, who previously led the Texas Commision on Environmental Quality, to head the White House Council on Environmental Quality, a post that requires Senate confirmation. Hartnett White, currently a senior fellow at the conservative think tank Texas Public Policy Foundation, has long expressed skepticism about established climate science and once dismissed the idea that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, calling it "the gas of life on this planet."

As head of the Council on Environmental Quality, Hartnett White would oversee environmental and energy policies across the government.

Hartnett White appeared on "The Right Perspective," an online conservative radio show, in September 2016 when she made the comments talking about a "dark side" to belief in global warming.

"There's a real dark side of the kind of paganism -- the secular elites' religion now -- being evidently global warming," Hartnett White said.

The bitch of it is, this conspiracy-theory mindset about global warming, once the thing hits hard enough that it's impossible to deny, will just lead those idiots to say that the warming was due to a liberal weather-control device or something.

It is always interesting to ask a conservative what they would accept as evidence for the existence of global warming. Eventually you realize they won't accept anything because their belief was never about evidence but protecting their worldview from something it can't solve.

I'm a conservative. I accept that AGW exists, and is a threat to the Earth. Part of why I oppose Trump.

He attacked Rep. Wilson for accurately conveying the hurt of a Gold Star family while confirmimg the president was lying when he said she had fabricated his comments. That's not an action that deserves charity.

I'm not the only one who said Kelly was fine up until he made his attack on Wilson.

Interesting is he included some sexist comment in his press conference about liking the old days when women were respected? It was very odd but pretty much a reference I suppose to when women knew their place. It so reminded me of the BS that extremist Muslims are really protecting and respecting women.

But I digress. Rachel Maddow has a fascinating exposé on tonight that maybe needs a thread of its own. She has an angle on why Trump has been mum on the Niger incident.

Summary:

US put Chad on the banned travel list with the latest E.O.

There might be some issue with Tillerson and Exxon (a side story) that led to including Chad on the list.

When Chad was added to the list, basically accusing them of supporting terrorism or not doing enough to stop it, Chad withdrew forces from Niger that were fighting ISIS.

The result was US soldiers were put at risk.

This is an unfolding story, we can expect more and it is unlikely to put the Trump admin in a good light.

I don't think it's that deep. Trump is mum on Niger because it was a failure. One of his prime tenets is to never admit failure.
 
Rachel Maddow just aired an incredible story about the Niger attack: It happened right after Chad pulled troops out of Niger that were protecting villages from Boko Haram, and that was a week after the Trump administration inexplicable added Chad to the "Muslim ban" list. Chad is (was) our best ally in the region, and the most effective in fighting Muslim radicals, so experts and other governments were baffled. Turns out, to apply for an exemption from the list, the State Department required that countries send in a freshly printed passport to verify it met security requirements. Unfortunately, Chad hasn't been able to print passports for the past six months because they were unable to get the special paper it required, and State refused to allow an older passport. So right after Chad was added to the "Muslim ban" for failing to get their paperwork in on time, they pulled troops out of Niger, and now Boko Haram has resumed aggression in areas that had been quiet.

(ETA correction: It was Homeland Security that wouldn't accept the old passport, not the State Department.)
