Cont: The Trump Presidency Part III

And let me be clear: we must admit the opposite is in play...

Once one has found an authority figure lacking, from that point on ego defense mechanisms lead to confirmation bias, emphasizing the “bad” and glossing over the “good”.

You’d have to be blind not to see that going on as well.

I think a little China bashing was in order, in fact overdue, so Trump scores on that (or used to). Their trade practices were, and are, cheating, as is the disregard for IP, an attack on the foundations of the knowledge economy. An economy that, by simply existing, being there, allowed former rice growers to send ships to the moon in short order. All anyone on the planet has to do to go from the savannah to modernity is read, and that knowledge base grew as much from temporarily guarded secrets, IP, as it did from open science.

As I wrote that, it was equally clear that his opposition is qualitatively different, and is expressed in terms of the stupid economy, not the knowledge economy. So even when the poor guy is right, he remains so wrong. Ibid for some other aspects of foreign and domestic policy; his good moves all turn out to be a clock getting it right twice a day; i.e., dumb luck.

The Mickey Mpuse Republicans. Republicans who would support Mickey Mouse if was a member of the GOP and was in the White House.

Based upon the cartoons, I'd say Mickey mouse would be a substantial improvement over what we have now.

Explosive '60 Minutes' investigation finds Congress and drug companies worked to cripple DEA's ability to fight opioid abuse.

And the chief architect of the law is Trump's pick for drug czar. Gotta love how all of his picks are expanding that swamp at record pace.

Why the heck is he getting away with all of this?

Why isn't the media hammering him or his administration or his party with questions about all that?

It's like, oh yeah, he is doing **** here and dirty stuff there, some media publishes it, but no one seems to care.

In all the press conference or white house briefings I have seen, all the reporters ask is usually the daily nonsense about his latest tweets, mishaps etc.
Why aren't they asking questions that would really hurt?
It's like the media keeps just playing his game, instead of forcing him to play theirs.

Trump’s net worth dropped $600 million on the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans, dropping 92 places to #248.

Still, $3.1 billion is nothing to sneeze at.
Its amazing how wealthy you can get. Well, assuming you start with big loans secured by family connections. Then get bailed out of financial hardships by generous gifts from your father. Then inherit a whole bunch more wealth. Its a true rags to riches story.

That's assuming that that $3.1 billion is an accurate assessment. Trump hasn't really been forthcoming with details about his wealth and income (remember the tax returns that never got released even though he said he would?) And much of his wealth is tied up in the name recognition of "Trump" rather than tangible properties or stocks/cash.

Recall that several years ago, an author claimed that rather than being a billionaire, Trump was worth only a few hundred million. Trump sued and lost (although the decision was based on the judge's assessment of intent rather than an actual accounting of his worth.)

That was quick, Tom Marino has already removed himself from consideration. Good riddance, the 60 Minutes segment was pretty damn, well, damning.

Good Tuesday afternoon. OBAMA WORLD PUSHES BACK ON TRUMP -- From a former Obama White House official: “President Trump’s claim is unequivocally wrong. President Obama engaged families of the fallen and wounded warriors throughout his presidency through calls, letters, visits to Section 60 at Arlington, visits to Walter Reed, visits to Dover, and regular meetings with Gold Star Families at the White House and across the country.”

-- OBAMA’S OFFICE declined to comment on the existence -- or lack thereof -- of a call between Obama and John Kelly about the general’s son passing away. OBAMA, however, did host a breakfast for Gold Star Families on May 30, 2011. KELLY and his wife sat at Michelle Obama’s table, according to someone familiar with the breakfast. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did not immediately respond to an email request for comment.

TRUMP ON TALK RADIO, EARLIER -- “Trump invokes death of John Kelly’s son in furor over calls to fallen soldiers,” by Nolan McCaskill: “President Donald Trump on Tuesday invoked the death of the son of his chief of staff, John Kelly, as he defended his claim from a day before that Barack Obama and other past presidents didn't always call the families of slain service members. Trump also said he doesn't feel a need to clarify his remarks. …

Trump trying to use Kelly's son as so kind of stick to bash Obama with?

I feel weird defending Trump, but the bill was passed by a bipartisan vote and signed by Obama. No blame attaches to Trump, other than appointing Marino, who could easily have convinced him he had some expertise.

Elsewhere on ISF (I think?) someone said that maybe the Generals did tell Trump that. I doubt he would be good at offering solace. It would be like being comforted by Mr Burns.

Fortunately, even the presidents I've hated were in a completely different class. Whoever follows Trump will have very tiny shoes to fill.

After all the institutional knowledge Trump's team kicked out when he took office, the next couple administrations are going to be the political equivalent of a "team-building year" in professional sports.

Agreed, bitter fact is many Democratic congressman like money as much as GOP congressmen do.
