Cont: The Trump Presidency Part III

I'll believe it when I see it.

Yep. Not going to happen while the Republicans control Congress.

Even if Dem controlled Congress, not sure I'd want to make Pence president. Best plan for the Dems is to endure the next 3 years and hope the country isn't completely destroyed.

Where is the rest of the GOP on this?

Has any republican governor/congressperson/official of any sort come out to say, "No, just no"?

The only ones I can think of are Corker, who's not running again and Kasich, who has always been an outsider in his own party.

How would he do on the voight-kampff machine test?

Not well. He would probably be slated for "retirement".

Seriously, Trump does lack empathy. Many people are uncomfortable expressing emotion or providing comfort to those who are hurting, but I don't think that is his problem. He really does see the world only through his eyes and can't place himself in someone else's shoes.

Replicant? Or perhaps....

Blade Runner - "You see an old woman crossing the---"
Trump - "How much money does she have on her? Can I have it?"
Blade Runner - "Okay... definitely a Nexus-1 Republicant."

Trump - "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. I built that gate. It was a big beautiful gate with the most glitter. It kept out the Pleiadians."

Unfortunately for Trump, it doesn't work that way.
I've read that licenses could be removed from broadcast (over the air) companies, and affiliates that NBC owns, but cable isn't regulated the same way. NBC could run a Cable show that was nothing but the words '**** Trump', and there is nothing he could do.

Poor sad little man.

"And the shoulder of Orion? My shoulder is much better. They say I've got the best shoulder anybody's ever seen. Believe me."

P.S.: I think it would be the Tannhäuser wall.

Anything from Trump on the Weinstein affair? or is there something about the story of a wealthy, powerful man who got away with sexual assault for years finally being exposed and destroyed that makes him uncomfortable?

Trump was asked about a report from NBC News that claimed he’d sought to dramatically expand the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

Trump called the report “fake news” and said a ten-fold increase in the U.S. nuclear arsenal would be “totally unnecessary” and that he merely wants U.S. weapons programs to be in “tip top shape.”

“It is frankly disgusting the press is able to write whatever it wants to write,” Trump said.

When asked, he said "no," he would not seek to limit what the press writes.

"The press should speak more honestly," he said, according to the White House pool report. "I've seen tremendously dishonest press. It's not even a question of distortion. Like the question that was just asked before about 10 times the nuclear capablity. I know the capability we have, believe me, and it is awesome. It is massive. So when they make up stories like that, that's just made up, and the generals will tell you that. And then they have sources that don't exist, the don't exist. They make up the sources. There are no sources."

If only there a reason to trust Trump about anything at all.

He already said he wants a nuclear arms race and start building nukes on a grand scale again so having him say that he wants bring up the nuclear weapons stockpile back up to cold war heights doesn't seem very incredible to me.

It's conceivable that the investigations might turn up something that causes the GOP to turn on him, maybe force him to resign like Nixon without all the messy impeachment process.

I believe that Trump is very dangerous, which is to say I am predicting that his mental illness will cause him to do something disastrous sooner or later. If I'm right, it might be something that swings Congress into action literally overnight. But if he manages to get to 2020 without causing havoc, then I'll admit I was wrong.

Poor sad little man.

According to the linked story, each individual broadcast station has its own license, and almost all are owned by companies other than NBC. Trump would have to go to war against multiple multi-billion-dollar communications powerhouses. What's astonishing is that as a TV industry veteran, he doesn't seem to understand that. And of course, he couldn't touch cable or internet outlets at all.

More just playing to his dumb base.

Trump as president has been stripped of his most used tools from his business career. The lawsuit and the threat of the lawsuit.

Previously he was able to sue when he felt wronged or wanted the upper hand regardless of whether or not the suit had any actual merits. He was willing to spend money on the suit and bet that the other party wasn't. He got to have things go his way doing that.

As president, he can't sue but he thinks that the power of the presidency will strike fear into others. Quite the contrary since the powers of the president are quite delineated that he can't bluff. He thinks that by saying he wants to have their broadcasting licenses pulled that NBC will actually be scared by that?

It all comes back to Trump is just a bully and he is quite regularly having his bully tactics called out now that he is president.
