Jeez, we just got another big one. 7.1 according to US gov't. This one hit Puebla area. Massive damage being shown on TV right now. Injuries, road collapses. Puebla is only about 1 1-2, 2 hrs south of Mexico City. My area is ok. Nothing like the one a few weeks ago, but Puebla area just got nailed. :(

live coverage. https://cnnespanol.cnn.com/tag/transmision-en-vivo/

Sano y salvo?

Si, gracias. My town has really lucked out with these last few earthquakes, somehow. We have had shaking but no real damage at all.

Structures down in CDMX, as reported live right now. People digging with bare hands. Fires in Puebla area.

Phones down in our area. Just posted on FB for all to contact families, friends.

Glad you are safe!

Besides the recent 8.1 earthquake, the only major quake I heard about with our southern neighbor was also near Mexico City in 1985. Major destruction.

Today is the anniversary of that one.
News reports said today was a day of many earthquake drills. Hopefully this strange coincidence saved lives.

Noticias Imagen is reporting multiple gov't buildings have collapsed, including national employment agency and a health services building. Health services is a rather vague term, so I am assuming it is an administrative edifice rather than an actual clinic or hospital. I hope.

The photos look devastating. So many buildings down to rubble.
I'm looking for the announcement that California is sending search and rescue teams with dogs - immediately. There is no way you have enough for this.

In another thread I wrote about visiting Chapultapec Castle during the 1980's - it was actually only about six months after the 1985 earthquake. Some of the buildings around the city were still just piles of cordoned off rubble.

Chapultapec is on a big hill sort of on the middle of Mexico City, with views looking lengthwise along some of the city's big avenues. Some of the employees there told us that during the earthquake, they could see the ground rippling along in waves down the avenues.

This one looks pretty devastating. I hope any other forum members in Mexico are also safe.

The fatalities are going to be in the thousands. Look at the size and how fast the building collapsed in chrispy's first video link. Can't tell for sure, it's about 5 stories. There's a report of a school collapsing, kids were in their classes.

Here's another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LF5i5jdBYTM

It's awful.

reporting is that a building with a kinder on the first floor collapsed. I can't verify, but it it is being spread word of mouth here.
