Trump - No transgender individuals in the military

We all need to sit in a big circle, hold hands, sing kumbaya, and watch Hacksaw Ridge until we get this right.

Discrimination is wrong.

I am on the fence with this issue.

I can understand folks seeing a man wanting to be a woman and a woman wanting to be a man, as suffering from some sort of gender ID disorder.

The trouble is that when you see it as "a man wanting to be a woman and a woman wanting to be a man" you are already falling into the bigoted way of thinking. What you need to see is a woman who looks like a man wanting to be a woman who looks like a woman and a man who looks like a woman wanting to be a man that looks like a man. When you understand this it's not quite so hard to understand it.

Since it's something that should be learned in kindergarten, I think the remedial exercise is appropriate.

Possibly, although if someone hasn't got the basics of that down by the time they are adults, then I'm not sure how returning to pre-school educational techniques will be useful.

They've already demonstrated it wasn't sufficient for them.

It wasn't suggested for rehabilitation purposes or to be helpful for that matter.

I was thinking more of punishment.

I don't think it will take much time for a court to overrule the President, if someone gets separated, suits will be filed that day.

Pet peeve of mine.

No, discrimination is not wrong.

To take it to the absurd, yes discriminating on what topping you want on your pizza is not wrong, but that's not what we are discussing.

Pet peeve of mine.

People who don't mind their own business.

Someone's gender, sex, or sexual orientation is no business of the President as long as they can fulfill their military function and obligation and conform to the UCMJ and not commit any offenses however slight.

UCMJ is Uniform Code of Military Justice.

True. It's also not what Meadmaker meant.

You're saying that certain forms of discrimination in certain contexts is wrong. And everybody agrees with that principle, with the disagreement being which forms and which contexts. But everybody also agrees that there are lots of forms of discrimination of people (not pizza toppings), in lots of contexts, which are perfectly acceptable if not required (with, again, the disagreements only being which forms and which contexts). Hell, you even hinted at one form in your own post which you approve of. Which means that Meadmaker is right: discrimination is not wrong in and of itself.

The dirty secret about that bogus statistic that trans bigots always neglect to share is that the number comes from people who are forced to suppress or deny their TG issues.

Once they are allowed to transition openly and without social stigma the numbers normalize.

In other words, it isn't because they are TG, it's because of the way they are treated because they are TG.

Ubiquitous hate and scorn can contribute quite a bit to depression in someone who is already struggling with a thorny medical issue.

I don't think it is a dirty secret - at least for the study I read - as they all cite ostracization as the main factor of youth TG suicide.

That si why I added this "now whether that apply to military situation is open but certainly something one would have to keep an eye at" as ostracization could indeed happen in the military too.

Conservatives: "Umm, that isn't what we asked for. What are you doing?"

Republicans on Capitol Hill are scrambling to respond to President Donald Trump's announcement Wednesday to reinstitute a ban on transgender people serving in the military after conservatives who lobbied the White House say they were pushing only to prevent the Pentagon from paying for medical costs associated with gender confirmation -- not an outright ban.

There is the key difference. You actually read the study.

The people who cherry pick that tidbit will broadcast it among their listeners eager to find fault with all things TG and who will never even question the statistic, much less actually look at the study and try to understand its implications.

Their takeaway; "Lots of suicide. TG bad."

Then it gets passed around and repeated by people who are equally credulous. Usually without contradiction.

It has been debunked for years, but its use by anti-TG bigots is as fresh and persistent as it ever was.

The only way to even try to combat it is to point it out every single time this dishonest attempt at condemnation surfaces.

I wonder why people would be worried about people joining the military to have a sex change. The costs are not that big and if you want people to only join for the right reasons why do we waste all that money on the GI bill and trying to get people to sign up so they can go to college?

That's different. It's a worthy cause.

They aren't transgender. They deserve more.

Pandering to base and doing stuff that is wrong, but buys him some extra support from the Retard vote. He knows very well what he must do in order to have their support.

McHrozni

Give them all coke and bjs - iirc!

When do the re-education classes start?

I assume they will be compulsory.

From what I gather from the General in charge of boot-camp on CNN, it is currently a mandatory part of said boot-camp.

So if you want to attend classes, see your local recruiter.

It won't do me any good.

The military discriminates based on age.
