Russia steps up spying efforts after election

(CNN)Russian spies are ramping up their intelligence-gathering efforts in the US, according to current and former US intelligence officials who say they have noticed an increase since the election.

The officials say they believe one of the biggest US adversaries feels emboldened by the lack of a significant retaliatory response from both the Trump and Obama administrations.

"Russians have maintained an aggressive collection posture in the US, and their success in election meddling has not deterred them," said a former senior intelligence official familiar with Trump administration efforts.

Gee, Tillerson tells us Trump began the meeting mentioning Russian meddling. Putin asked for proof.

My guess, either that was the end of the discussion or they all had a good laugh over it. If the bar were any lower you'd need to dig a tunnel to get under it.

Setting up a working group on non-interference in future elections – as Tillerson said had been agreed – is hardly likely to reassure those in Washington worried about Russia’s actions.

What the bizarre du jour is, is that anyone thinks Trump seriously confronted Putin on anything, let alone on election tampering. It couldn't have been more than a horse and pony show. And the news media had been speculating (seems to be most of what one sees on the MSN these days) about will he or won't he bring the cybercrime up, they were completely unprepared to add any objective measures they might use to judge whether it was a meaningful bringing-up-the-subject or not.

There the MSN is reporting on the dog and pony show without noting that is all the report actually contained.
