CNN Doxxes a gif maker

SJWO5Fq.jpg

It looks to me like the media are holding themselves to account. News gathering and presentation are not science, but they are peer-reviewed. Any chance Mr. Hole and his ilk will hold similar struggle sessions to get to the bottom of their own bad judgment?

Actual facts? What part of "you cannot add information by converting a file" do you not understand? This is aking to asking me for evidence that a man cannot fly by flapping his arms. It's impossible. The evidence is that it is impossible.

I don't have information on the file sizes/resolution. You didn't provide them. So I have no factual basis for concluding the presidents tweet has a higher resolution.

Hey, how about a link to the original GIF so I can check myself then ?

Your position is looking more and more one of wilful ignorance or ideological commitment.

Your position is looking more like its based on your opinion, and not facts. That's fine. If you have FACTS, share them.

Unbelievable. as was your claim that your posts were related to the posted article.

smfh

Thank you. I asked for the next Straw Man. You provided.

That post does not indicate I said CNN released Podesta's emails.

I've offered to take this to the appropriate thread. I wouldn't want to be accused of being off topic.

Oh you were referring to CNN releasing someone else's hacked emails when you wrote:

But perhaps you'd like to offer why you think CNN investigating a news story, but ultimately not publishing the name of said gif maker, makes them "pussies" but releasing hacked private emails is ok.

what ever you say.... :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Maybe I'm being sentimental, but IIRC 36 years ago CNN was the only news organization actually in Baghdad getting out the news that the U.S. was bombing Baghdad.

From people.com:

As Bombs Fell on Baghdad, Three CNN Reporters Scored a Coup

I have respect for CNN the way I have respect for Al Jazeera. Its reporters have been on the front line at important moments, sometimes at risk to their safety. I don't believe either is agenda-free, and CNN definitely deserves criticism. But I am surely not going to trust Fox News more, and I'm almost as skeptical of CSNBC, HuffPo, politico.com etc. I am well-trained enough to spot CNN's bias and sense of self-importance, but it believes it is fighting the good fight and it's still pretty good at facts. It's definitely more reliable in that area than Trump is.

Hey, what's Trump up to today, anyway? Is there anything more important than Doxxgate to focus our attentions on?

No i am claiming that doxxing the wrong person makes it worse.

Uh-huh:

While you're at it, see my posts from up above explaining that this does not constitute doxxing.

and while you are at it, see my several posts explaining that it most definitely is, particularly given the fact they have the wrong guy.

Sure thing, Dog.

I think there is a fundamental difference in the reasons for doxing that frankly makes the CNN style more palatable.

Doxing a reporter and their family is only meant to serve as a vehicle for deranged people to harass them. I'm going to guess that the reporter's family, friends, and co-workers already know they are a reporter. It serves merely as a way to direct your it at them.

In the CNN case it is similar to what happened to Palmer Luckey. It informs friends, families, and co-workers of the hidden opinions of the person. They then have a new piece of information to assess the person they know

I want to come back to this

I disagree

CNN had no reason to even track the guy down..............his gif was totally inoffensive but it caused them butthurt.......so they used their far larger 'power' to find and threaten him

Thats despicable

We,the people, should therefore subject them to what they threatened us [by extension] with.

Im sure they wont get any more random hate and 'harassment' than some random gif maker would have got from ..............I don't know,ANTIFA ****wits also butthurt by the fascist meme?

Quite frankly,**** them. They stepped over a line and they wont learn a lesson unless its taught to them in the most obvious way possible.

To think that's what they spent time and money on is *********** amazing.
I hope 4chan drives them insane with a doxing avalanche and on scene harassment by randoms when they try and film 'news'.

You don't understand: It's ALWAYS the case because it's the way these file types work. GIFs are limited to 256 colours, do not have sound, and are generally of crappy quality, though they can be used for animations, something JPGs cannot do. If you want to create a video from a GIF, it will have the same crappy colours and resolution. You can sure add sound to it afterward.

Hey, how about a link to the original GIF so I can check myself then ?

See CE's post #128. It's clear from the video that it's much longer than the GIF, and that the resolution is higher. Again, you CANNOT add information to a file by converting it. Otherwise you believe in the CSI "enhance" button nonsense.

Your position is looking more like its based on your opinion, and not facts.

Your obstinate refusal to accept facts does not prevent them from being facts..

Don't worry! The reporter is already receiving death threats, and the White House has threatened to cancel the time warner - AT&T merger!

Did it start out that way, though? If CNN is mocked in a Trump tweet, I see no reason why it wouldn't want to figure out where the meme came from. Even if it's just from a corporate PR standpoint. Sure, it could have ignored the tweet and maybe it should have. But from there, it found out more about Mr. Hole's posting history - that he was spreading a lot of offensive stuff anonymously, stuff he obviously didn't want to put his name to. So CNN gets on its high horse ... but why do people post, completely gratuitously, offensive nonsense, then freak out if they are unmasked? I find fault with CNN, but I don't really see why Mr. Hole is seen as a martyr. Why not stand behind his statements, if he has negative things to say about Jews, Muslims etc.?

CNN does not need to be unmasked. It reports things under its own banner. You can't say it is anonymously trying to insult people without any fear for consequences. Is it not a problem that people spew vile rhetoric anonymously? I've been in the media and this was already bothering me 10+ years ago. Where I lived it was Mexicans ... subject to some hateful commentary. What is the appropriate response?

Quite frankly,**** them. They stepped over a line and they wont learn a lesson unless its taught to them in the most obvious way possible.
Do you want to see CNN staffers beat up? The same way Mr. Hole would presumably be beat up (or worse) if people knew his true identity (Which, BTW, CNN did not reveal)?

To think that's what they spent time and money on is *********** amazing.
I tend to agree, but I don't think CNN set out to do this purposely. It searched out a meme, things escalated from there. Unfortunately, IMO. But CNN and its reporters are not exactly hiding behind anonymity.

Too bad they downplayed Saddam's atrocities to get that sort of access.

I don't support suppressing others free speech if thats what you're asking. Do you?
It rather depends.

Suppose that J makes hateful, racist posts anonymously. A journalist revealing his identity is not suppressing speech, I'm my opinion, and I see nothing wrong with it.

Change J to a victim of a bigoted society writing about his experiences. Revealing his identity is still not necessarily suppressing speech, depending on my motivation, but I would think it's a morally bad thing to do.

In any case, if you were a free speech absolutist (your term), you would not want to suppress CNN 's free speech, would you?

:eye-poppi

CNN did not release Podesta's emails.

unbelievable......

Why do you pretend like you don't understand what is being said? Do you think others can't follow the chain of posts or remember some of your past posting history?

It's just really bizarre
