I'm still a registered Republican and tomorrow I plan to contact my senators and congressman and recommend they consider a formal censure of the President.

I agree it's time for action.

I am a Republican as well, but didn't vote for Trump. However, I received my Republican survey in the mail the other day and I plan to send it back with a scathing letter about how harmful Trump is to America. And, I am very angry that Trump has not undertaken any action against the Russians for meddling in our presidential election and that is totally unacceptable in my book.
Trump is ruining America and it's long past the time for the American people and our elected officials to rise up and stop the maniac in the White House.

I have to admit that they've constructed a remarkably resilient worldview. I must point out that I'm only talking about the vocal, alt-right portion of Trump's supporters. I have no idea what more traditional Republicans think of his performance.

I am a Republican and if it were up to me, I would have impeached Trump in February. Look how much damage he has caused to America since then.

But hey, to point you at something else to be outraged at... It looks like the Pentagon may thank foreign-born recruits for their service by deporting them. I was momentarily surprised, but then I remembered how the Republicans had also been preventing those who risked their lives to help keep our military informed come to the US when they were in danger, in keeping with the agreements that were lawfully made with them. So the Republicans got "Kate's Law" passed in the house. Justin Amash was the only Republican who voted against it. He's criticized and insulted Trump before. Be interesting to see if this has consequences.

See ? The Democratic Party had better get a plan B, the GOP have now found a way to get things done despite the President.

It's almost as if one or two senators are "allowed" to dissent (and good for them if they do) so long as the GOP political agenda isn't derailed. IMO exactly the same will happen with the healthcare bill, up to two purple state senators will vote nay for local consumption and the bill will get through on the VP's tiebreak vote if necessary and a poor bill which will deny insurance to millions (and due to the useless policies it will allow to be written will deny decent healthcare to millions more) and give huge tax cuts to a tiny minority of the population will pass. The other senators will, as sts60 suggests, find some concession that allows them to vote for this terrible bill they have likely never even read.

They have a fix for that. The "Election Integrity" commission is requesting full voter rolls, including names and party affiliations, from every single state. That'll make targeted voter suppression easier.

What's wrong with that? The GOP, saintly by definition, will only do holy things with what they find in the confessionals. Only the worst sinners will be punished.

Hate to say it, but I think massive voter suppression is not quite as easy to do as you think it is. Or,if it is, then you need to go out and buy yourself a rifle, because armed resistence it what it will come down to.
Of course I also realize you are out to make the GOP look as bad as possible.

Someone has forgotten the recent NRA thinly disguised incitement to civil war, and Trump's clear promotion of 2nd Amendment "welcoming committees" at polling booths during the last campaign. If there be guns, they will be there to suppress. "The South rises to defend the right of blacks and dems to vote?" Really? Holy cow.

One of Trump huge flaws is he just does not get that at times,as president, the best thing you can do about your critics is ignore them.

But it says right there in his tweet that he ignores them now. This is Trump telling them that he is putting them on ignore, and that they're dicks.

His post hasn't been moved to AAH, it's been memorialized forever in official White House records, and a few people from his party have given him a mod box warning. I'm pretty sure he'll modify his behaviour now.

Interesting article but it fails the "so what ?" test IMO. For example:

Simply is not going to happen. Even if Trump is wildly unpopular (and I still think that he is popular enough to get a second term if he chooses to run), GOP supporters will continue to vote for GOP candidates and a combination of gerrymandering and the selective purging of voter rolls will make sure that the GOP retains a political edge in key states.

IMO the "issue" isn't the GOP, President Trump or any of the other things that "progressives" have blamed - it's that tens of millions of ordinary Americans are very, very happy with the GOP and the direction in which they are taking the U.S. They want to get rid of the ACA so that "spongers" get what they deserve. They want those "welfare queens" to get a sharp dose of reality, they want the rule of law based on the 10 commandments, they genuinely believe the world is 6,000 years old and that evolution and global warming are myths invented by liberal intellectuals.

The pendulum will not start to swing in the other direction and IMO it will continue on its current path because a very large number of people see this as being positively beneficial - I don't see that changing any time soon and may become moreso as large parts of the the United States becomes increasingly religious.

Notice how the author hangs himself. He says he was putting flesh and bones on the Reagan revolution, not like the crazy alt-truth of today. Uh-huh. Sorry, but supply side econ is nonsense, or marginal at best, and you argued for it, pal, ushering in the era of alt-truth right then and there. I would have been far, far more impressed if a Republican had admitted, "Yes, we stood for debt-based growth in every administration since Ronnie. Big, fat, mistake of epic proportions. We also never mentioned that the trade deficit became a permanent thing in Ronnie's time and under our careful watch. Now add the S&L meltdown in his administration after the first wave of deregulation, then the Great Recession from the deregulation in Gingrich's era (shame on Bill Clinton, too). Well that's all rather unedifying

But please remember, 40% - 50% of the U.S. electorate (depending on which set of polls you use) think that the President is doing a fine job. Many, if not most, of those people would probably think that the White House's actions are perfectly justified for MSNBC in general and Joe Scarborough in particular harassing The President with fake news....
