The Trump Presidency

Trump's job approval is in the low 40's. Is 40% of our country that stupid? Does anyone here approve of Trump's job performance? I would love to hear the reasons why. I think that if Trump acted the way he acts anywhere BUT elected office, he would have been fired months ago.

No, but a phrase that comes to mind is "credit where credit is due".

I use it a lot when people I generally disagree with do the right thing.

Is wagging your finger and saying "bad, bad boy", but otherwise not doing a damn thing to stop him generally considered doing the right thing? I know it wouldn't be if it were an actual toddler, but it is when it's an old man with the mental aptitude and temperament of a toddler?

Okay. Let me know how that goes for you.

Do you think it's impossible?

I wonder what would happen if products using sugar started adding a, "This product is X cents more expensive due to a Federal Government tax on sugar."

Right along with the ones touting, "This product uses no high fructose corn syrup."

They don't mind charging extra for that one.

Hint: The President will get always get at least a 40% approval rating just because of pure partisan feelings.

a 40% approval rating, btw, is considered to be terrible for a sitting President.

I saw this with the right with just about everything Obama did. And now the left gets a chance to exhibit the same behavior.

Republican remains silent in the face of a transgression - criticized for not saying anything.

Republican speaks out in the face of a transgression - criticized for not doing anything.

Republican does something in the face of a transgression - criticized for not doing more.

Republican does exactly what the left was calling for in the face of a transgression - criticized for not doing it sooner.

There's just no winning with some people.

edited to add: I just saw Arguememnon's "Uh-huh. Criticise them for doing nothing. Criticise them for doing too little. I don't see a contradiction, there." Really, the game plan seems to be to criticize them no matter what.

Hate to say it, but I think massive voter suppression is not quite as easy to do as you think it is. Or,if it is, then you need to go out and buy yourself a rifle, because armed resistence it what it will come down to.
Of course I also realize you are out to make the GOP look as bad as possible.

Were you paying attention to what happened in NC last year?

Even the court said it was blatant voter suppression.
North Carolina legislators had requested data on voting patterns by race and, with that data in hand, drafted a law that would "target African-Americans with almost surgical precision," the court said.
And that was only one among a number of changes they tried specifically for the purpose of suppressing the vote of Democrats.

Even the SCOTUS shot that one down.

That's not necessarily true. Bush was in the 20's at one point.

Well, let's see, if the Republicans stop trying to ruin the health care system, stop trying to ruin the environment, stop trying to turn the clock back to the 50s when it comes to civil rights, and generally stop focusing all their efforts on serving only those living in households taking in over $200,000/year, I'll ease up on the criticism. Hell, I'll even take a serious look at joining the party!

That's not necessarily true. Bush was in the 20's at one point.

True. But that was during a very unpopular war.
When the body bags start coming home..which, sadly, I think is inevitable;doing the ultimate tough guy act of going to war is going to be irresistible to somebody as obsssed as looking tough as Trump....then he will be in the 20's...and might reach there anyway.

From the time I spend on the alt-right message boards I get the impression that a lot of them are very pleased with his immigration crackdown. They also seem to feel that he's doing a better job of fighting ISIS than Obama did. They keep bringing up something about him going after pedophiles but I think that's mostly some conspiracy theory stuff.

One of Trump huge flaws is he just does not get that at times,as president, the best thing you can do about your critics is ignore them.

He needs to heed Abraham Lincoln's advice on this.

If I care to listen to every criticism, let alone act on them, then this shop may as well be closed for all other businesses. I have learned to do my best, and if the end result is good then I do not care for any criticism, but if the end result is not good, then even the praise of ten angels would not make the difference.”

Of course Trump will not heed this advice, and it seems as though attacking his criticis is the main business of the White House under Trump. Disaster lies ahead.

You're engaging in the exact same type of behaviour, yourself. No matter what we say, you'll circle right back to your theory about our agenda.

Your complaint was that one criticises another for not doing anything, but also for doing something that is largely symbolic. Again, there is no hypocrisy or fallacy there: we just want them to do something worthwhile.

Do they know what if anything he's doing differently? Or would asking that question get you banned?

I've asked. In-between all the insults and name-calling, the belief seems to be that Obama supported ISIS and that most of the military actions seemingly taken against ISIS during his administration were either fake news or deliberately ineffectual. Trump actually attacks ISIS rather than simply pretending to.

When did Trump attack ISIS?
