The Trump Presidency

The people I know who voted for Trump are pretty reactionary. They're nostalgic for the America they think they remember and they want to go back to it. As far as I can tell, that's really about it. Some of them have become disillusioned, they say, "He's no different."

For some of my older relatives that is exactly it. They believe a fantasy of a time before Roosevelt where everyone just took care of each other. However, they are all white, my mother came from an upper middle class family who suffered during the depression. My father came of age during the 50s with unparalleled economic activity.

The character assassination of a strong female leader? That was more than a century in the making.

"She doesn't have the stamina..."
"She's too weak..."
"Do you think she'll get world leaders to listen to her...?"

I was just talking about personal character assassination of hillary, not basic sexist leanings.

Clearly we got the strong healthy leader we needed to can't walk with other leaders and must take a golf cart, even on the green in a golf course because it is way to far to walk from the edge of the green to the center. No one could possibly be capable of that.

Name one thing - anything - that a bull in a china shop does beside destroy.

If you think china, and fragile decorative items in general, are a bad thing, then what is wrong with such destruction?

If you think government has grown to unproductive levels and has become a net negative in society then destruction is a goal not an unintended consequence. Some are hoping for destruction of many parts of the government and trusting the Constitution to keep it from going too far.

It will be interesting to see if they can agree on where to draw the line. Healthcare seems to be pointing out some riff on that topic among those who voted for Trump.

many people voted for Trump strategically, either to weaken Clinton or to force a shift in how the government works by throwing an Orange spanner into the machine.
These people aren't necessarily stupid, but they are incredibly reckless.
Actually, if you are willing to take a flawed but functioning system and toss it out the window based on the empty promises of a racist orangutan, then you are not being 'reckless' you are being stupid.

(In this case, being reckless and stupid are pretty much synonyms.)

The problem is, many Trump supporters are both critical of "big government", yet rely on that same government for their jobs/health. Like those Trump supporters who are now worried about loosing health care if Obamacare is repealed. Or those in former coal country who will loose out if Trump cuts funding for projects to diversify their economy.

Oh, and by the way, while a Trump supporter may complain about "big government", they voted for a man who is going to spend BILLIONS of taxpayer's money on a wall of potentially no use. Sounds pretty "big government" to me. (Then there is the increase in military spending.) So anyone who had the goal of reducing government should not have voted for Trump.

I suspect that they are anti "big government" spending when it's not on things that they directly benefit from or support - when it's on something they directly benefit from or support then by definition it's not "big government" spending, instead it's shrewd investment in the national infrastructure.

It's the same thought process that objects to "those moochers over there" getting their welfare cheques whilst being adamant that they have worked hard in the past, or would work hard if they had had the chance, for theirs....

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere yet...

From: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/t...an-nonprofit-to-family-report/article/2627199
Documents obtained by the Guardian show Sekulow that month approved plans to push poor and jobless people to donate money to his Christian nonprofit, which since 2000 has steered more than $60m to Sekulow, his family and their businesses.

He has become one of Trump’s most vocal defenders since joining the team of attorneys representing the president amid investigations into possible ties between his campaign and Russia.

Keep draining that swamp!

It's too bad that it is a private club, it would have been nice to get the first tee time of the day and drive the cart on every green.

Anyone like me - very skeptical and cynical about the sudden intelligence (not shared with your allies) about chemical weapon attacks in Syria at the time there are lots of negative stories about the health-care legislation?

Blatantly obvious from where I stand. Notice in particular some nebulous claim of seeing preparations.

Pentagon, State Department appear surprised by Trump's new red line on Syria and chemical weapons
The White House appeared to draw a new red line on Syria Monday night, with Press Secretary Sean Spicer warning that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had been caught making "potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack"

Caught by whom?

You don't get it. But Trump understands what they want.

Didn't you hear: Mexico is paying for the wall.

I think they are fixing the flat by removing the tire and trying to drive on three wheels.

Just to beat a dead metaphor, I feel like they're fixing the flat by stabbing the other four tires and then claiming victory, "I told you those tires were no good."
