Nope.

Which makes his comment that Comey, "better hope that there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!", perfectly reasonable.

Why wouldn't he say that?

I am sure there are some who think it is a perfectly reasonable thing to say. Then there are those with properly functioning brains. A Venn diagram of the two groups would be pointless.

He never claimed to have made recordings, did he?

Disjoint.

Trump made a very stupid, and typical, bluff.

Stupid because Comey wouldn't be afraid of recordings and because Trump is a well-established liar.

Typical because he's a two-bit bully used to blustering and getting his way by threatening people who can't afford an army of lawyers. It doesn't work that way in government, and especially with a methodical lawman like Comey.

Stupid because Comey called his bluff and Trump had to back down, publicly, thus undoing much of whatever advantage his idiot threat gained him with his pathological apologists on Fox, right-wing radio, and Internet discussion forums.

Stupid is going on Fox and Friends and admitting the tweet was meant to affect Comey's testimony.

No, it was meant to keep Comey honest.

Because Trump is fundamentally honest

Amazingly stupid this.

Silly me, how could I have made such a series of typos when I meant that...

except of course, it won't affect the GOP support for him... yet.

I am still expecting him to eventually start eroding his base, and the GOP will drop him when he starts hurting them.

The other scenario is that he starts personally antagonising enough senators so that *they* want revenge.

Trump hints that Mueller may be crooked....

President Donald Trump has questioned the neutrality of Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in last year's US election.

Mr Trump said Mr Mueller's friendship with James Comey, who had been heading the inquiry until sacked from his role as FBI chief, was "bothersome".

Asked on Fox News whether Mr Mueller should step down, Mr Trump said: "We're going to have to see."

Given his history, shouldn't Trump's statement that there are no tapes be taken as absolute proof that they exist?

Trump did not deny that recordings exist. He said he has "no idea" if they do or not. All he has said is that he personally did not make recordings. I doubt that he would make them regardless - he has staff. He has left open the possibility that they may exist. Typical weasel.

ETA - tapes is such a quaint term, still in use mostly by us over 60's :D

No.

He isn't a reliable liar. He reliably says whatever he thinks looks good.

That's probably going to be the defence against obstruction of justice - he just spews forth a mix of truth and falsehood with no discrimination between the two.

The more I see of him, the more I am convinced that his personality defects are scale-invariant. They look the same at whatever level from illegal evictions to having more ice cream than anyone else, from what is pretty close to treason and lying about it, to lying about the size of inauguration crowds

The interview with trump was hilarious. When the interviewer suggested the hint at tapes existing might have been a clever way for Trump to assure Comey was honest, Trump commented about how smart he is. :p
