Merged All things Trump + Russia

Okay, we know that we're dealing with a white supremacist, isolationist admin. Good enough.

I'd really like to know what was up with this proposal that Kushner made for a covert (not "back-channel") link to Putin.

The given response that they wanted to discus Syria is absurd. My suspicion is that it was about The Idiot-in-chief's financial dealings.

I'm also amused that they're gearing up. Okay, so they recognize that we're after them. That won't stop anybody. Makes sense. I'd like to see this admin burn to the ground, so let them get lawyers. And let god folk go on the attack against him.

And with luck we'll tear down all of these anti-poor white supremacists. And maybe actual conservatives will have the space to step in...

Please provide a full quote with context. Please be certain that it is not an interpretation of what you think someone thinks, and is actually an explicit and incontrovertible statement.

Which part? Are you asking for an in-context quote from a poster interpreting Trump's comment as an admission?

Still no solid evidence that it was the Russians.

Highly plausible - yes. Likely - sure. Still no evidence.

Correction: We haven't seen the evidence -- yet -- so we can't personally judge how solid it is. But as far as I know, the people who have seen it, including many Republicans (including DJT at one point) seem to think it's convincing. I thought you were fond of inductive reasoning?

Fine.

What I have found is that Trump was asked if he was thinking about the Russia investigation when he fired Comey. He answered that it was on his mind.

This has been interpreted as him "admitting" that he fired Comey in order to stop the investigation.

But that isn't what he said. He hasn't "outright" admitted to it, as you claim. But if you prefer your interpretation go right ahead.

You don't seriously expect Chump to publicly state he fired an FBI director to sabotage an investigation pointing, in the end, directly at him? This isn't an episode of Perry Mason, where the mentally ill witness breaks down on the stand and confesses all. In context, his interview statements were highly incriminating.

Chump demanded the the chief law enforcement official in the country swear allegiance directly to him; Comey refused. Chump then asked Comey to kill an ongoing investigation into Flynn, 'cause he's a real swell guy, and Comey again refused. Followed by Comey getting fired in the most humiliating manner. Drawing probable conclusions here isn't a "witch hunt", it's reasonable.

I find this explanation compelling:

We’ve heard it claimed that this secret channel to Moscow Kushner and Flynn wanted to set up was to discuss the situation in Syria. That is simply not plausible. At least it couldn’t have been just about Syria as there are numerous legitimate ways to do that. If the conversations were about Syria and ISIS, which I find dubious, they must have included other topics which had to be hidden from the US government, the intelligence agencies and US military.

The most plausible ‘bad’ story behind the Trump/Russia mystery has always been some kind of financial preferment to members of the Trump family in exchange for lifting the sanctions put in place after the Russian annexation of Crimea and subsequent low-intensity incursions into eastern Ukraine. This wouldn’t come out of the blue. It would probably come in the context of some ‘deal’ over Syria or Ukraine or perhaps some agreement about global counter-terrorism cooperation. As I’ve written, there is a more ‘innocent‘ explanation as well. It may not be any quid pro quo. It could simply be years of doing business with Russians and people from other parts of the former Soviet Union which has made Trump inclined to see their needs in a sympathetic light. His hostility toward the sanctions regime could also be driven by the fact that, with his dependence on Russian and FSU investments and purchases, they likely hurt him directly.

Not sure that the "innocent" explanation is much better for Trump, but I do think this is about sanctions and money. One of the folks Kushner met with was a banker.

Follow the money.

Pence will have political experience to get things done, but he is much further to the right then Trump. He will have just as much trouble getting things done because of the ruling elite.

I doubt that because Trump is an idiot and too stupid compared to Pence, which was evident when his budget was revealed, among other idiotic things he came up with. It is expected that Trump will pull the US out of the Paris climate accord, which will have the Russians clapping in glee as the wedge further widens between the US and its allies, not to mention the rest of the international community.

Depends on how much, that's why where you are it's a fuel/trucking issue. Here mulch is still very cheap so tree work isn't priced on the lower end products. It's barely worth pulling out the 4 cut logs anymore.

Who pulls out the logs they take a walking tub grinder and an excavator and grind on site.

Follow the money: Mueller is bringing on Andrew Weissmann, head of the DOJ's fraud section under Obama, to the Russia probe.

Special prosecutor Robert Mueller is bolstering his team of investigators probing possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, adding a top Justice Department official overseeing active investigations into corporate fraud and foreign bribery, according to people familiar with the matter.

The official, Andrew Weissmann, is the most senior government official to join Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director who became special counsel on May 17,*said two people, who asked not to be named discussing a personnel matter that hasn’t been made public. Mueller recently brought on Peter Carr, a veteran spokesman for the Justice Department, to deal with the news media. He also hired at least two lawyers from his former law firm, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr LLP.

As the head of the Justice Department’s fraud section in the Obama administration, Weissmann’s specialties have*included corporate wrongdoing and foreign corruption. He has overseen investigations into Volkswagen AG over diesel-cheating, global banks over market manipulation and Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras over corrupt payments. He also started a pilot program that offered companies incentives to self-report possible violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits bribing foreign officials.

I see morons all over both houses of congress. I see a moron at the helm of the republican party. So clear evidence AS USUAL seems to dispute your account.

I see ruling elite on both sides. As far as morons, they got themselves elected to congress so coming from an internet member that seems just a bit hollow. ;)

Our allies will do whatever we want, they're sitting ducks. You of all should know this.

And yes it's wonderful news he's decided to get us out of that horrible agreement, meanwhile our allies are stuck with the economic outcomes of it. They'll be along soon though, it won't last.

One thing that I do know from experience, is that Russia loves what Trump is doing to the US and it ain't good for us. Trump is ruining the credibility of the US.

You are kidding, right?! The majority of the world's nations are for that treaty and even major corporations are for the treaty was well. The fact that Trump wants to withdrawn from the Paris climate treaty once again proves my point that Trump is unfit to be president of the United States.

Now, this:

Elon Musk threatens to quit role advising Trump if he pulls US out of Paris Agreement on climate change

Elon Musk has said he would have “no choice” but to leave his advisory role on a White House business council if Donald Trump pulls out of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Putin yesterday in an interview with Le Figaro, asking "the West" (again) to stop drinking its own kool-aid and start cooperating in solving real problems.

Irony! Putin asking other people to focus on real problems. You know, unlike dealing with gays, conquering foreign territory or intefering in foreign elections.

The former Soviet Union once cooperated with Hitler, that is, until Hitler threw "Operation Barbarossa" in Stalin's face and as a result, they paid a heavy toll for being stupid.
