I guess this is a derail, but like most things Clinton, there's some smoke but not much fire. The White House travel office had been audited and it was discovered about $15,000 was missing and unaccounted for. The staff was let go and the new staff included a cousin of Bill Clinton's. The GOP in Congress went after Hillary Clinton after a WH staffer was discovered to have told someone, roughly, "Hillary made us fire them."

The thing is that the travel office director wasn't just fired, but was prosecuted on multiple federal charges for what amounted to sloppy bookkeeping. He was eventually cleared, but his defense cost big bucks, and the cloud hung over his head for a long time. That was used as an early example of Hillary's ruthlessness.

She had been an executive with Ritz-Carlton, a very high-end hotel chain, for 25 years when Obama appointed her in 2011. Multiple news outlets reported that she was fired. She herself, when contacted by reporters, said any comment would have to come from the White House.

Hillary Clinton was essentially cleared of the charge she ordered the staff fired. From your New York Times link:

The report said Mrs. Clinton strongly supported the original investigation into management of the travel office and was informed by memorandum, two days before the President was informed, that the seven members of the travel staff were going to be dismissed on May 19.

She urged the travel staff management be investigated -- this was after a Peat Marwick audit was critical of the accounting -- and she was informed in advance they'd be fired. So what? She may have later downplayed her role. What role?

I've been reading through the articles and could find no new details to suggest anything 'wrong' with this dismissal. I saw mention that a good severance was paid.

Since Reid has suggested that the WH should explain, and I doubt the WH will feel the need to explain, there might never be any explanation forthcoming. Is the WH obliged to explain? No. imo, this is not a newsworthy story.

Anti-trump people want there to be some scandal, pro-Trump people want anything Obama related to be expunged, and the divide grows.

Did you read any of those stories? Multiple news outlets ran the sensational headline, but none of them actually backed it up. None of the sources quoted--even the anonymous ones--corroborated the claim. Multiple news outlets were unable to find even a single source in the White House or out of it that says what you say they say. Hell, the woman herself doesn't say it.

Multiple news outlets were unable to find even a single source in the White House or out of it that says what you say they say. Hell, the woman herself doesn't say it.

That's not how it works. This is a long-term non-partisan job. Only nine people have held it in 130 years. The only reason somebody leaves voluntarily is to take a better job or to retire, and she didn't do either. Someone who leaves under circumstances like this either was told "Get out," or more likely was told "Resign today or you'll be fired." And most people have the sense not to badmouth a previous employer. The facts speak for themselves. Nobody has to explicitly say "fired."

It is conceivable that she found working under Trump intolerable for some reason that she would not like to make public. I don't think that's the case. I think she was more likely fired.

But I can't get too interested in this, unless we hear something specific and concerning. Of all of Trump's faults, failure to treat dismissed at-will employees with basic respect is fairly low on my list.

Typically, especially at her level, someone would line up another job, give notice, and exchange "Thank you, good luck" letters. They didn't even announce that she was "leaving to spend more time with her family," corporate code-speak for "fired."

Yeah, among Trump's crimes this is way down low on the list, like ripping off his contractors. It's just another example of his contempt for common decency.
