Gorka out...

According to a resident poster, Nazis are leftists anyway, so it's just as well that Trump fired him.

Of course, the original Nazis were the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Can get any more leftist than that!

Anyway, short of wearing a swastika armband this guy Gorka could hardly have demonstrated more Nazi credentials. Arguments in the subject are merely semantic.

aaaaaand... a Nazi at best, white supremacist at worst? Or is it the other way around?

It would be the other way around. But you ignored my reasoning.

Gorka's a member of a far-right ethno-nationalist Hungarian organization that has a history of being sympathetic to Nazism.

Shorthand: He's a *********** Nazi.

Order Of Vitez was an order of military merit that existed up until the 40s. It had members who allied themselves with the Nazis and members who fought against the Nazis. Even if the entire order explicitly allied with the Nazis, that wouldn't make it a Nazi organization. The US is allied with Saudi Arabia, but we wouldn't call Trump, Obama, Bush, etc Islamists. At least, I wouldn't. Maybe you would.

The Historical Order Of Vitez, which exists today, is also an order of merit. It does seem to hold some ethnic-Hungarian Hungarian nationalist views. It's still not a Nazi organization. Nazism means more than just ethno-nationalism. So, no, not a Nazi. And not necessarily a white nationalist. But, at any rate, I'm glad he's out of the administration.

JFC. You can't just leave out the bits that are inconvenient, like how the order was established by Horthy with an ideology asymptotically close to Nazism, or how the State department found the Order was under the control of the Nazi Party and committed human rights abuses on their behalf.

Go try to whitewash someone that deserves the effort.

1. I'm not an expert on Order Of Vitez and don't claim to know everything there is to know about it. I'm not intentionally leaving anything out for the sake of making Gorka look good. That's why I said the Historical Order Of Vitez seems to hold ethno-nationalist views. It's also why I said Gorka is a warmonger, ignoramous and hack, with dubious academic credentials. I'll add that I do think his membership in the Order makes him look bad. I just don't think it makes him a "Nazi". But him actually being a Nazi would not be inconvenient for me in any way.

2. It seems Horthy held some similar views to the fascists / Nazis (though note that he was hostile to Hungary's actual fascist party, The Green Arrow). The state department position I was aware of. It seems accurate to a degree. I say to a degree, because some of it could be characterized as submitting to Nazi demands (still bad, but could be explained by cowardice as opposed to "being Nazis") and because there were also members of the Order taking actions against the Nazis.

3. Regardless of the finer details, I don't think it's accurate to claim someone is a Nazi based on membership to a group that had links to the Nazis in the 30s and 40s. If you think it's accurate, go right ahead.

Go try to whitewash someone that deserves the effort.

I'm not concerned with Gorka's image. I'm concerned with the misuse of the word "Nazi", in general.

Tell you what. Use the forum's search function, and decide for yourself if I have a history of calling people "Nazis" spuriously.

It has gotten so that you can't even refer to members of the National Socialist German Workers party as Nazi's.
