Brilliant Light Power Going To Market - Free Energy Generator

Even given a clean energy source, one needs the infrastructure and technology to put it to helpful work.

We already have both of those. It would be utterly trivial to convert coal and nuclear power stations into ones powered by this device.

They haven't closed the dome yet, let alone enclosed it in a suitable vessel that can hold argon and (minimal) hydrogen gas, let alone have that vessel enclosed by a suitable heat exchanger. Lots of work to do still.

...but it has a cooling system already on it. I've seen it. What does the cooling system do, if it doesn't move heat away from the device?

To clarify, even if there is no working product in 2 years, I won't say "there's nothing to it". It will certainly prove me wrong in my timeline, and it will give me good reason to reassess my beliefs, but it's not like it will activate a belief kill switch.

So what about 2 years time will make you reassess your beliefs in a way that hasn't already occurred in the previous 12 years?

One could emphasize one experiment that failed to produce a result, or one could note from the same paper that about ten other labs observed anomalous excess heat.

Which of those other experiments were truly independent? Can you link to any of the papers?

The cPV cells are known to have efficiencies of about 40 percent converting useable light to electricity. With the SunCell it should be even higher because it wouldn't have the reflective losses that normal use cPV cells have. Normally, cPV reflect the light back up into space. With the SunCell the reflected light will be going back to the graphite radiator.

So, I think your 4 percent estimation is a tad low. But yeah, there will still be a lot of waste heat with the cPV cell application.

If you understand how black body radiation works, you'll know that the graphite radiator will not be putting out a range of frequencies that the solar cells will be optimized to receive. There will be a lot of waste. Don't expect efficiency to be "even higher".

Indeed

(wikimedia image so image is OK I think)

This is a BB radiation spectrum. Ignore classical theory for a moment.

This is the efficiency of a silicon cell.

You will have to click on the link

Sure you can combine material, but odds are , you won't be able to cover everything.

Then a lot is converted to heat, pass through the cell, and is plain lost.

At the moment I think the best you can get is around 33% efficiency maximum total (single junction), and even if you combine bands you will not get much higher than that (45% I think is the record holder - not sure if it is available experimentally.).

This makes *no* sense whatsoever to go to BB then photo-voltaic cell. None.

So is the issue that they've got a prototype that produces large amounts of ultraviolet and soft X-ray radiation, but don't yet have a prototype which produces heat? Or that they can handcraft a prototype just fine, but are still figuring out how to mass produce the thing? Or maybe both of those issues?

No, the previous prototypes either produced nothing or quickly self destructed before it could be determined if they worked. The new prototype is supposed to fix all of that, but hasn't been completed to see if it actually works yet. But they are confident! (Just like they were every other time.)

Maybe Trump needs to hear about this incompetently managed miracle energy project that would go a long way to making America great again. Better get this done with your best people and resources before the Chinese or North Koreans get wind of it. If Mills was a true patriot he would be pettitioning the Whitehouse.

Funny, but in this 2008 article Mills claimed:

http://money.cnn.com/2008/07/01/smallbusiness/blacklight.fsb/

For the first time in his company's 19 years of persistent trial and error, Mills says he has a market-ready product: a fuel cell that produces a chemical reaction to alter hydrogen atoms. The fuel cell releases heat that turns water into steam, which drives electric turbines.
The working models in his lab generate 50 kilowatts of electricity - enough to power six or seven houses. But these, Mills says, can be scaled to drive a large, electric power plant. The inventor claims this electricity will cost less than 2 cents per kilowatt-hour, which compares to a national average of 8.9 cents.

The article goes on to talk about the 20 generators they already had built.

Just hilarious stuff!

Some more from that article

"This is no longer an academic argument," Mills, 50, insists. "It's proven technology, and we're going to commercialize it as quickly as possible."

REALLY? Thanks for reassuring us about that Mills! Aaah wait....

About 20 of the generators, which look like small copper water heaters turned on their sides, rest on lab benches inside the company's 55,000 square foot headquarters, once a Lockheed Martin facility. BlackLight's 11 scientists barely make a sound as they slip among the cavernous rooms, blue lab coats flapping behind them. The near-emptiness is eerie, but it's also portentous, says Mills: "Within the next two years, we're going to grow to 500, maybe 1,000 employees. This could satisfy a majority of the world's power needs, and the demand is going to be huge."

Uh oh the 'magic' two years again? Markie how does that strike you?

While the company's followers already extol the high-energy, green, and thrifty virtues of BlackLight's technology, the rest of the world will have to wait for evidence until the fall of 2009, when the business promises to install its cells in power plants. Whether or not Mills' team meets that deadline will likely determine how BlackLight goes down in history - as a revolutionary startup or a flop 19-years in the making.

ooooohhh somebody is telling porkies!

So where are those 20 generators today? Did each one create a tiny black hole and suck themselves right back out of existence? And did they take a bunch of the thousand employees with them? Seems the only thing Mills has perfected after over twenty years of "research" is the Empty Promise Generator.

Yes Hydrino are actually miniature cannibals.

I think it is actually going on 25 or 30 ..............could we have an official ruling on this? How long has Mill been failing at producing anything? What is the official count in years?

Jordan agrees: "Theoretically, the bumble bee can't fly - but no one told the bumble bee. Now they're saying this can't be done, but it's happening."

https://www.sciencenews.org/article/flight-bumblebee

Often, the statement is made in a distinctly disparaging tone aimed at putting down those know-it-all scientists and engineers who are so smart yet can't manage to understand something that's apparent to everyone else.

And the morals drawn from the tale are many, including the notion of persisting with a new idea in the face of dogmatic adherence to old standards and maxims.

[...]

So, no one "proved" that a bumblebee can't fly. What was shown was that a certain simple mathematical model wasn't adequate or appropriate for describing the flight of a bumblebee.

I believe that these are the ones that he abandoned because he thought of a completely different way to do it all much better. Because the first thing any good businessman does when he has a revolutionary product that will make him rich is to abandon it for 10 years while he pursues something else.

Under standard conditions with 5 junction cells - with an incident colour temperature of ~5800K, an incident power density of 1000W/m2 and a temperature of 25 degrees C.

So Markie, what temperature will the graphite dome run at, what is the incident power density predicted to be, and what temperature will the PV cells be operating at?

So, I think your 4 percent estimation is a tad low. But yeah, there will still be a lot of waste heat with the cPV cell application.
In other words, it's the system design of an incompetent idiot.

I think that is the 'Mills 2nd principle of Balmawhapple'.

It seems that short of a signed confession from Mills that this has all been a scam, nothing can dis-suede (see what I did there?) Markie from his belief in this crackpottery. After all, we are 12 years on from the forum that was linked above, and we still have seen Jack **** from Mills, other than unverified claims, which have been questioned within the saner scientific literature.
Electric Suns and electric comets come to mind. More a faith based belief than a belief based on evidential and sensible science. I think we all know where this will end.

Apparently almost nothing can dis-suede me, and almost nothing will per-suede you.

And on the contrary, Mills has been incredibly productive over 12 years, attempting different iterations of hydrino generation techniques. Unfortunately each one had at least one shortfall or problem that thwarted commercialization.

And, don't forget, Mills claims have been indeed been verified and validated by many different scientists.
