Whatever Putin was trying to do by messing around in the US election, is seems to have backfired on him. I wonder if Donnie's friendship with Putin was just the old salesman tactic of pretending to be best buddies with a prospect with no real sincerity behind it.

I think Putin's more pissed at Assad over using chemical weapons since that forced the US' hand.

Yeah, sort of, but I am not sure that President Trump had to shoot any missiles. He could, and he did, but "Had to" ... not seeing it. "Forced the US' hand" seems a bit over sold.

Not just that, but it made Russia look incompetent. They vouched for safely destroying all of Assad's chemical weapons.

This is probably the main reason Russia's position at the moment is that the chemical weapons were not Assad's, but rather, rebel-built. ie: their story is that Assad's planes bombed a legitimate target: a rebel weapons factory, but they didn't know it was building chemical weapons, the rebels accidentally gassed their own people.

Wonder how long that story will stand up.

I read in a political blog that most Republicans in Congress do not like Stevo. The leadership definitely does not like him. They consider him much too extreme. That as Donnie gradually begins to figure out how governing works, he has begun to grasp that if he dumps Bannon he'll score points with Republicans in Congress. The same Republicans that he will need in the future to get some of his legislation passed.

I wouldn't give odds on how much longer Bannon will remain in the White House.

Depends on who you ask. All my Russian acquaintances accept it as Gospel Truth, and I don't see that changing.

What I do see is that my pro-Trump acquaintances who were confidently forwarding me links to articles in Russia Today (eg: about how the Liberal West is bordering on Sharia Law) are starting to think twice about that outlet's reliability.

Trump Declines to Say He Supports Bannon, Declares ‘I’m My Own Strategist’

There were even rumors that President Trump was considering firing Bannon, but tensions between the two West Wing factions dissipated when the president himself ordered Bannon and Kushner to sit down and hash things out on Friday.

Or maybe not.

On Tuesday afternoon, the New York Post’s Michael Goodwin asked President Trump if he still has confidence in Bannon.

“I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late,” Trump said. “I had already beaten all the senators and all the governors, and I didn’t know Steve. I’m my own strategist and it wasn’t like I was going to change strategies because I was facing crooked Hillary.”

He added, “Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will.”

I have little doubt that if Trump feels he has to choose between Bannon and Kushner, he will choose Kushner. This is a good thing.

It appears as though President Trump’s affections for the nationalist Bannon have softened in recent weeks. Trump had reportedly grown unhappy with the “President Bannon” meme that for months has been highlighted in magazines, on television, and on social media.

Last week, a Republican source close to Trump confirmed to The Daily Beast the president’s level of insecurity over Bannon’s reputation, and mentioned that Trump was seriously “irked” after catching a glimpse of a recent cold-open on Saturday Night Live that depicted Bannon as the real, “Grim Reaper” president and Trump as a dumb stooge.

For the majority of trump fans any article that does not offer outright praise of trump and/or his administration is biased. Even if they are merely reporting without criticizing this is seen as evidence of bias. For these people praise of trump is seen as the neutral editorial position in journalism. Anything short of praise is anti-trump bias.

That is why they can with complete legitimacy be called deplorables - nay - even more that they can be called with even more full certainty slime ridden, evil and horrific complete deplorables with no hope of redemption for their evil and ignorant ways!!!!!
