Merged All things Trump + Russia

The bad news for Trump is that it looks like the Senate investigation is going to dig into his SHADY business connections with Russia, specifically the Russian mob....

The business connections, however, have been known for some time and always struck me as fertile ground for actual deal making. I will predict that Trump is in massive trouble if that investigation really starts digging.

Forgot to say, I agree with this. Money laundering and shady deals with the Russian mob are looking like a given. Trump may be very sorry he didn't think this running for POTUS through.

Carter page's interview on Chris Hayes made him appear to be bad at keeping his mouth shut. There are a lot of avenues of inquiry here.

Yeah, that's what surprises me - there is some actual stuff going down. It's gotten more and more likely as the information keeps leaking out, but during the campaign, as much as I hated Trump, it just seemed unlikely that they would have done something so stupid.

What's interesting to me are the previous connections between Russia/pro-Russian factions in Ukraine and Stone, Manafort, the whole Trump family, Flynn...etc.

It seems to me that those relationships are the means by which they stayed in contact with Russia throughout the election. We'll see. The more insane their behavior gets (Nunes) the more I'm inclined to believe they did something impeachable.

Again, in this made up scenario, the point was to trick Nunes into thinking he was being given intel by leakers instead of by Trump, providing a layer of cover so to speak.

Why Trump didn't just release the info? Because then he'd have to name the names that were not redacted in the surveillance.

That supposes he would think these two were acting independent from the administration?

He seems to be wilfully blind

I went to a John Dean talk here a few years ago. He said people get star struck around the POTUS. Dean said that is why Nixon's inner circle didn't speak up before breaking the law.

I picture Nunes basking in his 15 minutes of fame and having been star struck by being contacted by people close to Trump. It's not like the House has the same kind of status of even the Senate, let alone the WH.

The upper house is acting like the upper house. Seems that someone has to put on their big boy pants and the Senate's move is essentially saying to the House and to the nation that someone's willing to behave more like adults. Partisanship in Congress as a whole is pretty bad, but the House has taken it to new levels. Nunes is unfortunately in a safe seat; the guy should be run out of town on a rail. I never thought I'd start thinking of Gowdy as impartial, but Nunes has everything but the T tattoo on his forehead. Can't you see him in the next Captain America, giving Bannon the secret handshake and whispering "Hail Hydra"?

Don't be ridiculous, HYDRA were far better organized than this trainwreck. Frankly as things stands if HYDRA announced they were taking over the world it would probably be a relief.

Which "he" are you referring to, Nunes or Trump?

Why is it a stretch to think the leakers tricked Nunes?

It seems a huge stretch to think parts of the White House that never has a firewall between themselves and the president (unlike the FBI which has a tradition of it), is somehow leaking info to you that favors the president.

I have to say, I'm surprised at how dodgy they're being about the collusion over the hack. It's not as though the hack guaranteed his election, so it seemed odd to me that they would involve themselves in that at all. That keeps moving forward in a surprising way.
It was in the interests of all parties involved to undermine Clinton to the greatest degree possible, regardless of the election outcome.

In a justice system worth the name, sure. In 2017 USA, he'll be just fine.

I think you're ignoring the Gorsuch in the room. Get him on the bench and they think this will all be worth it because it lasts a lifetime.
