Cont: President Trump: Part 3

Ahh, such a lovely day. Trump's healthcare bill failed. The public hearing on Russian influence in the election got canceled in favor of a closed meeting (can't be good news). When The Hair fails the nation succeeds.

As I posted elsewhere.

Historically unpopular, despised president, under cloud of scandal and suspicion, fails to strongarm passage of unpopular bill.

What a surprise.

Again, I don't understand politics.

Why does this have to be?

Why can't they actually spend time working on a new bill that does something good, instead of trying to ram this through?

Trump has a term of 4 years. The republicans in the house have 2 year terms. They have time to do something. Why are they giving up now? Do they honestly think they have given it the best effort?

If they really cared (and that is the key, of course) they could get something to work. But it's about politics and gamesmanship, and not governing.

........I do hope dad brings junior along on that state visit we are all so looking forward too..

I've mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it does double the number of targets. On the other, I just wonder if the nation will have enough eggs put aside by then.

The harsh truth is that at best, they don't mind sharing common cause with idiots and bigots.

Does that mean that you also don't mind sharing common cause with idiots and bigots? Or are you under the mistaken and naive impression that idiots and bigots do not exist within supporters of the Democratic Party?

Trump tailors his message to appeal idiots and bigots

Only an idiot would believe that the following was possible:

"That begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as Obamacare…You're going to have such great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost—and it's going to be so easy."

Trump has also made a lot of dogwhistle statements that appeal to bigots, and white supremecists have been celebrating his election.

There are indeed bigoted democrats and idiots who support the democrats, however I'd say that is a bug not a feature.

Being generous to the Tea Party, they have a very simplistic view of complex issues. I do know some people who are academically pretty able who hold similar views - but I'd say that they don't exercise their academic ability in certain areas, so they are being idiotic, if they are not idiots.

This is what pisses me off. It's so damn childish. :boggled:

The ACA needs work, no question. Obama got hosed with compromises just getting it passed. It was never going to survive as is. So instead of fixing it in place, the GOP spends seven years (and fifty some-odd votes) failing to repeal it.

Now that they fail to jam through a half assed replacement idea... they just give up?

Trump has the GOP behind him on another handful of major, major policy issues... do they really have to concentrate on just one at a time? :boggled:

Get your asses back to work and plan an acceptable replacement... or work to fix the ACA as you should have been trying for seven years.

********.

You don't argue it as if it were just your opinion.
I argue as if my opinion is correct! I'm trying to sway other people to accept my opinion. What would you do?

ETA: I suppose it would be more accurate to say I argue as if my belief is correct.

I thought you had to prove a hypothesis right, not wrong?
Actually, from a statistical perspective, you never really prove a hypothesis right. You have sufficient information with which to reject the null hypothesis. That increases the likelihood that your tested hypothesis is correct, but doesn't prove it so.

In this context, however I have an opinion based on my interpretation of events, my understanding of people, and my observations of the world at large. Other people have their own opinions, based on their perceptions in the same way. None of us have any actual evidence. To that extent, there's really no support either way. I can argue my belief as much as I like, and others can do the same. As soon as there is actual evidence to consider, then that belief has to be reviewed in light of the evidence.

You've crashed and burned on this multiple times. Of course you're entitled to still hold your opinion, it's wrong but hey that's your prerogative but could you stop going on about it please. People feel they have to respond rather than leave the bilge unanswered and it just clutters threads up all over the place. We get it, you think pointing out that some of the people voting for Trump were trash (they were / are and now you have a trashy President) made lots of people decide to vote for Trump. It's arrant nonsense of course but it's your personal obsession. Fine. Just do us a favour and shut up about it. We get it. We disagree, 'cos it's rubbish, but we get it and we're sick of having to point out why it's rubbish.

I've no idea why you're so obsessed but it's all you seem to post about now. You used to be a fairly insightful poster but now you just post about this, over and over again. Give it a rest, we get it.

It is amusing to watch how desperately you avoid the simple difference.

The Democrats have not based their entire strategy on soliciting the support of the bigots.

The Republicans have. That's why so many more of their supporters are bigots. And why the Republicans' strategy has now become one of how to placate them and keep that support.

Any group is going to have some number of individuals whose beliefs are less than desirable. But when the group is busily courting members based on those beliefs they shouldn't be surprised when someone notices the difference.

If they really ever had any interest in something that worked then they would have started putting their version together years ago, instead of exhibiting nothing but mindless intransigence.

This latest fiasco is just more evidence that they couldn't care less about a health care program which worked at all, much less one that did some good for anyone but those who are already well enough off that they don't need it.

Trump quotes mentioned up-thread:

"You're going to have such great health care, at a tiny fraction of the cost—and it's going to be so easy."

"Certainly for me it was a very interesting experience, but for me, it'll be an experience that leads to an even better health care plan."

I don't know why I'm continually amazed that this ********ter has enjoyed experienced so much success in his life. His "gotch'yer nose!" claims are so transparently false, yet a not insignificant portion of our stupid-**** electorate of braindead toddlers will always fall for it.
