Well first, despite what Trump keeps saying, he got rather less than half the votes. Secondly, yes a significant chunk of Trump voters are bigots, deal with it. Then you have those who despite being perfectly aware of those bigots support held their noses and voted Trump just because he was the Republican candidate/wasn't Hilary. Then you have the ones who preferred to believe the fantasy of build the wall/bring back the jobs rather than deal with the reality. As to idiots, well I get the impression there are certain posters here who voted Trump just because it would annoy certain groups of people, does that make them idiots?
I have no idea of the relative ratios, but I'm pretty sure that covers the overwhelming majority. If you want to argue people made a considered, rational decision to support Trump based on a clear set of policy positions, well you feel free to climb that mountain.

I think you are missing a group, time and time again people would read into what Trump had said with what they wanted him to have "meant" (we even saw it here on the forum). A few of us said he was the Rorschach candidate.
 
If the AHDC goes down in the House,which seems to be at least a 50/50 possibility,the meltdown in the GOP will be fun to watch.

I'll buy that. I honestly think the only group of Trump voters the Democratic Party might win over are those who seem to have really detested Hilary, they might go for a candidate with less baggage. There might be a chance that some of those who deluded themselves into believing the lies about bringing all those coal and automotive jobs will wake up to reality when Trump fails them, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Which would be more damaging? If it gets blocked, it won't be tested.

If it doesn't get blocked, a lot of Trump's key demographic will be harmed by it.

A lot of commenters are saying it is a choice between a humiliating defeat or a Pyrhhic victory which might do more damage politically in the wrong run.

Donnie seem to be losing it as a con man. One of the first rules of a good con man is no matter how stupid you think your mark might be,NEVER let him know you low opinion of his intelligence. Donnie's Lincoln does just that.

"Self-interest" probably says it best.

Aside from that the only thing keeping a treaty in place is that both parties are strong enough to enforce it, or have friends who are willing to back them up.

The Native Americans didn't have enough (any?) friends.

So they got steamrolled. Treaties are still being trashed.

There's no way to know if the story is real unless the girl provided the letter as proof and I haven't seen it. I can very much imagine that it is false and if it was anyone but Trump I would be more inclined to disbelieve it. But I have become inured to that bat crap crazy President.
