What book is everyone writing right now?

I didn't think it was possible, but I think I might have actually had a germ of an idea for an original story, not one based on a current fictional universe.

I'm still fleshing it out in my head, sort of, but the two main characters have pretty much sprung to life fully formed in there. I don't want to say too much, because the likelihood that I'll finish this is just above the level of nil, but if I do, I could see a series arising from this. It kind of remains to be seen if I can work out the details of the plot or not.

Volume II of my series published yesterday

Ensign David Driscol continues his journey out from England to India, going from Suez to Bombay where he takes up with the Bombay Artillery, a bibi and preparations for an expedition into Independent Tartary (what we call Central Asia)
I missed this post earlier. Wow that looks like you put so much research into these books, and what an interesting story the preface reveals. Congrats on finishing such an enormous work.

Is your wife proud? From the Kindle preview of Volume 1, it looks impressive.

I have the following projects on deck:

A print edition of my ebook "Answering Kirk Hastings."

A fiction story about a Hydrino based generator in New York City having some, er, technical difficulties.

A bit of crossover Fan Fiction tentatively titled "Mighty Morphing Power Granger."

I'm also being approached about "uncredited editorial and research support" for a Creationist book arguing Hydrino theory supports the Bible.

I love Hasting's review of your book. That's a positive review IMO. :sdl:

I hadn't heard of the hydrino theory until now, guess I don't hang out in the same subforums. Sounds like great material for a fiction book. I like the "er, technical difficulties" premise. :)

Go for it Sabrina. It's that motivation from an idea that led to my book. Still working on it, of course. My excuse is I had to teach myself how to write while I was writing it.

There are only a few chapters left that need major revisions and as I work on one of them I can see the last of my dorky writing disappear into the removed files and something actually decent replace it.

I liked Kirk's review of my book so much I added another chapter to the book responding to it. :)

All the other projects have been sidelined by a short story I'm working on. My youngest son is obsessed with the Wiggles. His big brother is a Power Rangers fan. The elder has asked me to write a story about the Wiggles being Power Rangers. That one is almost done. I need to work in the weaponized keytar and the Zord battle before I can proofread and post it

HAS ANYBODY HERE ON JREF EVER WRITTEN A SITCOM/PLAY ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES OF TEEN PREGNANCY? I HEAR THERE IS ONE AND IT IS QUITE GOOD! i aM trying to hijack the thread SORRY, its just that they don't let me come out of forum community so much anymore...

Working on a new book called Wiznewski James, my sixth novel. It's a sci-fi urban fantasy. I'm hoping for a May release...

I'm working on a fantasy novel. My intent is to play around with a few fantasy tropes. I've got a Patreon, which I won't link to because it's commercial and therefore against the rules, but you should be able to find it if you're clever.

This morning I wrote a 94 word sentence. At $0.20/wd, that's almost twenty bucks.

Here it is:
"When a man expends all his will and energy in pursuit of his own goals and ambitions, and not the dreams of another, he may be frustrated by circumstance or thwarted by the Fates, but he will be blessed when, at the end of the day, exhausted, he takes to bed, for then he is granted a deep and untroubled slumber – the sleep of the just – and with new vigor, anxious, he will rise early and greedily accept the gift of a new day, eager to face the challenges, vibrating with excitement and enthusiasm."

I love my job.

I hate to be that guy, but is it sufficient for you to make a living off your writing? Or do you still have to have a "day job"?

Getting there, but no, not yet. Made about 6K in royalties last year with expenses a little over 1K. It's a nice supplement. One of these days, hopefully.
