Considering that one of his slogans is "buy American and hire American" I rather doubt that the Japanese would have a big involvement.
I would not take those slogans too seriously, since Trump has on multiple occasions failed to walk the walk.

But, for all those other reasons you listed, I agree he's unlikely to pursue it.

The poll doesn't include my answer which would be for Trump to think, "What's in it for me?" and make his decision on that basis.

Abe already suggested that he could have his own high sped rail from Trump Tower to Washington D.C.

Trump tried that with an airline and failed.

If it were rail that ran literally from Trump Tower to the White House, with no stops in between, who knows, it could tempt him. Operationally I wonder how long the journey would take given the aircraft and landing locations he commands.

Trump would lose interest long before construction was complete.

Abe: "would you like a high speed penis from here to here?"
Trump: "sign me up!"

I could be failing to appreciate the complexities of Donald Trump, but I pretty much think that my analysis of him is close enough to the truth.

I think you might be onto something. When Trump campaigned making America great again, he probably was talking about returning to America's Gilded Age, the age of the moguls, railroad tycoons, robber barons, steel kings and trusts.
Before that un-American bastard FDR brought Big Government into the US on behalf of his Muscovite pay-masters. So unfair to the Nazis. Sad.

A couple times during the campaign, and at least once after it, Trump has expressed support for high speed trains. This was during a campaign stop in Portland Maine back in March 2016:
Republican frontrunner Donald Trump stumbled into a riff about how great trains are. It's sad, he said, that the American rail system is so dilapidated while China's is now slicker than ever. "They have trains that go 300 miles per hour," the populist billionaire exclaimed. "We have trains that go chug ... chug ... chug." Link

This was right after the election:
Trump has said his infrastructure priorities would include mass transit and high-speed trains. Link

His pro transit and rail comments are one of the reasons some Northeastern Democrats say they are willing to at least try working with the Trump administration -- the Dems don't have a Mitch McConnell -- and some have even suggested specific projects that might be possible with Trump's support. One project would be the proposed Amtrak Hudson River rail tunnels into New York City. The existing tunnels are over 100 years old and were damaged during Superstorm Sandy.
