Merged SCotUS nominee - Neil Gorsuch

Would you rather the Senate had gone through the motions and then rejected him? That was my recommended strategy.

Sure, for two reasons.

First, because that's good governance.

Second, because they'd expose their hypocrisy in rejecting a judge they all had no previous issues with.

You know, the same argument they are now making going the other way. Nevermind that in this instance, the D's have a valid objection on procedure regardless of how they feel about the nominee, himself. Whereas the R's had no valid rationale for denying even consideration of the President's nomination.

Then perhaps it's time for you to realise that, being an extremist, you don't have a particularily well-balanced view of the world.

Lol
I don't think I'm extreme, I would say people on the left like you are extreme.

The Dems have a valid objection on procedure? Do tell.

Generally I agree with the tit for tat strategy to discourage bad behavior and encourage good behavior (which is one of the reasons I supported the Republican torture of Hillary Clinton over Benghazi), ...

I also think tit-for-tat is smart tactics but what was the tit that justified the Benghazi tat?

The Obama administration lied in order to distract attention from their gross negligence until after the election was over. The media helped them out of course. It was strange to see such a deserved political disaster for Obama and Hillary turn into a club for the media to beat Mitt Romney with.

Yes. In fact, as I read the section that provides for advice and consent, they had a duty to consider the nomination, not an option. Yes, we both know what the outcome would be but that doesn't mean the process should be ignored.

They did consider the nomination.

The Senate has constitutional authority to set its own rules.

"Advice and consent" could probably take the form of the Senate sending the President a short list of acceptable candidates, and advising him that they will consent to the nomination of anyone on that list.

Or, as we have seen, "here's some advice: don't even bother".

This is why pieces of paper with words on them (or equivalent) are such valuable legal assets (and/or liabilities :9).

It's kind of the same game as "Due Process" and the FISA court. They get to dance away on the excuse that there is some kind of process and that's all that's required, right?

Is there anything floating around out there that could be presented as indicative of the 'advise and consent' process happening?

ETA: an email exchange or such doesn't count, IMO. I'm talking about committee actions and floor actions officially taken and entered into the public record.

Replacing a left-leaning justice with a like-minded one is small potatoes. She was probably right.

Replacing a right-leaning justice with a left-leaning one, shifting the 5-4 splits the other way is something completely different.

This was all, keep in mind, in a context of the Tea Party, an insurrection in the Republican party against Republicans...for going along with the Democrats too much.

Turning over the Supreme Court would be a death knell for half of them, and mostly in the primaries.

The opposite cannot be said for Democrats trying to block this replacement. A number of Democrats are in iffy districts where following the deep blue concrete canyon dwellers' rage is by no means in their best interest.

Garland was middle road enough, but the GOP has no desire to govern fairly.

Cheering un-American, anti-American piracy. My surprise meter just went to negative numbers.

Good, I hope your side continues to underestimate my side. its also hilarious when the left uses "un-American", nothing more un-American than leftists.;)

Gorsuch will make a good addition. I look forward to his swift approval, after all, he's already been approved previously for a similar position by those who would now oppose his nomination.

Genius! Trump does it again. Since Gorsuch has already been approved previously by many of the same people, any attempt to block his nomination will be seen as obstructive and partisan! Results, the Democrats lose several of the 10 seats coming up for grab.

Chris B.
It'll be fun to watch the left head to the tall grass. What did little dick Durban say? "I honestly don't remember"

hilarious!
