Truly one of the funniest things I've ever seen on Saturday Night Live. It had me laughing until I retched. Or maybe it was retching until I laughed:

Of course that wasn't the only funny thing that happened yesterday. The million sore loser march was pretty funny too.

I think you (and Trump) have the wrong way of looking at a representative democracy. You seem to confuse it with a game.

The slightly more than half of the voters who opposed Trump are still citizens by all criteria, and as such have a completely legitimate right to have their views considered too. This would be true if the opposition was only 10% of the vote. Democracies are not winner take all. Indeed they can't function that way- the end result of winner take all is radical swings in government every few years and ultimately the tearing apart of the country. Of course the views of the majority should have more influence than those of the minority. But compromise must be the central driving force in government: all the viewpoints have to be considered and attempts made to try to reach a compromise that works and that (ideally) makes both sides reasonably happy (although presumably makes the majority more happy than the political minority). That is how one successfully runs a democracy rather than a dictatorship.

There are 300 million people in the USA- can we afford to ignore and belittle ("sore loser"??? Is "cry baby" next?)) half or more of them because of a single election?

But in recognition of your viewpoint I promise over the next 4 years to unify behind and to support Trump at least as strongly as the Republicans did Obama. Fair enough?

Further- you may enjoy trying to rattle the cage of liberals here, but I suspect that the idea of Trump as President is quite troublesome for you too.

It's part of the way the Rightwing think these days. If you aren't with them then you are against them, and as long as you are against them they will attack you. A victory isn't complete until no one dares oppose them.

I don't get it. Was that really SNL? Looks like something from the sixties. If so I'm glad I haven't watched it in over 20 years!

I can't understand what they are saying so I don't know if this is a joke or what or whom...?

CNN has been featuring SNL skits in their headlines every week for months as if they are relevant, usually a Baldwin doing a Trump impersonation. Never seen it. Is he a member of the cast now? I thought SNL was for up and comers, not old guys.

I don't understand the OP or the responses. Why am I responding? I'm in a weird mood I guess.

Seriously, this sore-winner game is getting really tiring.

Hey guess what! SNL has made fun of every President and almost every Presidential candidate since they started, why does Trump get a pass from this?

As for the protests, you seem very determined to tell us they don't bother you at all and that the people at them are sore-losers. Very determined to tell us. Constantly.

what would that look like? Calling the elected president illegitimate? Holding massive protests against him before he's hardly done anything? Complaining about foreign interference while liaising with foreign rallies against your president?

Do you find my view wrong, or do you just want to say that "my" side does it too?

In any case I am saying that citizens who oppose Trump have every right to hold massive protests against him and to advance their own agenda. Same as those who opposed Obama. My point is how the government needs to at least try hard to integrate the viewpoints of all citizens as best as possible- the opposite of demanding all citizens get behind whatever the President says. The latter is what a dictatorship demands. Which oddly is exactly what Trump has demanded.

As to calling the President illegitimate or relying on foreign intervention: do you really want to go there?

Vanessa Bayer teaches a master class on the humor of playing it straight. For the record, Lorne Michaels called this the funniest thing he'd ever seen.

Did you even watch the video I linked? It really doesn't seem like you did. For that matter, it doesn't seem like anybody here has. The contributions to the thread consist of mostly non sequiturs. My point is that SNL is supposed to be a comedy show, but it managed only to be unintentionally funny by doing an obsequious tribute to our outgoing President. The show is Democratic propaganda masquerading as comedy. Sort of like The Daily Show, or Stephen Colbert's abomination.

Are you completely sure that you're capable of detecting whether something is funny?

I guess that explains why SNL rarely elicits more than a smile from me and usually makes me cringe. I think the last good thing it did was "dick-in-a-box." Lorne Michaels was probably on vacation that week.

Show me something you've written that you think is funny, and let's compare it to something I've written that I think is funny.

ETA: I just remembered that all of my best stuff is either in AAH or FMF, and I can't access either for another week. I can go with my second rate stuff though.

It is something from the 60s. The song is To Sir With Love, from the film of the same name. If you're familiar with the movie, it's clear what is being said.

Yes. And thanks for taking a video of your TV screen instead of uploading a proper hi-res version.

Get used to it for the next four years, my friend. I think they're going large this time with coordinated marches, taking stands against the President, congratulating each other for being brave by taking stands against the President, and bravely changing their avatars on Facebook.
Up Next: Lady Gaga is doing the Superbowl halftime show, and I'll bet you dollars to donuts she'll do something brave. There will probably be a pussy hat or two involved.

Sunmaster has more than once indicated that he has a great sense of humor. It is a very serious issue for him.

It is a bit odd that SNL paid such a nice tribute to Obama when his dignified and thoughtful actions as President made it more difficult for them to satirize him. Whereas Trump's election assures them of endless possible skits for 4 more years ( if he, and the USA last that long). SNL should be grateful for the change!

I don't actually remember saying I was funnier than you. I certainly don't have any idea how your challenge is connected to anything in this thread. However, since you asked, here's a recap I wrote for the last episode of Mr. T. By following links on the site (AgonyBooth.Com). you can see a few other articles of mine.

It's a very strange bit, I'll agree. "Retching", though? Perhaps that has more to do with your bromance with Obama? I have the advantage of being able to watch SNL on delay on the computer. I just zoom past the boring parts (most of the show).

But you know,.... they hate you, right? You don't have to watch. Maybe you and Teh Donald could share a Taco Bowl (he has the best Taco Bowls, the best) in the White House kitchen while it's on instead of getting your blood pressure up.

(The only humor, and I use the term loosely, is the "we got you this mug" ending. The bit is flat and stupid, other than that. I hadn't heard of it before this thread, but I now note that it's getting a lot of positive web coverage. Sad.)
