President Trump

Then in the same respect, Trump receiving foreign monies that are not directly from foreign governments should also be acceptable.........
Chris B.

Depends on

- the source
- the expectation
- what happens to the money

Obama got an unsolicited prize from an international body of global renown. He donated the money to charity and there has never been any suggestion that the Nobel Prize Committee was attempting to influence either Obama or the United States policy.

In the unlikely event that Donald J Trump was the recipient of a Nobel Prize and gave the money to charity, I'd have no complaint (except about the committee's decision making).

OTOH if Trump or one of his companies receive a multi-million dollar payment from a person or organisation known to make payments to curry favour and/or if that money isn't given away (or best yet returned to source) and/or if he's in a position to attempt to influence U.S. policy (for example to withdraw sanctions) then that's completely different.

To date Trump's dealings put him distinctly in the latter category.

Then again you're the one who brought up the emoluments clause w.r.t. Obama's Nobel Prize - are you now going to admit you were wrong to do so ?

US President-elect Donald Trump says he is willing to work with Russia and China, providing they cooperate.

Mr Trump told the Wall Street Journal that newly-imposed sanctions on Russia would remain "at least for a period of time" but could then be lifted.

In his interview, Mr Trump said sanctions on Russia could be lifted if Moscow helped Washington in the war against Islamic extremism and in other matters.

"If you get along and if Russia is really helping us, why would anybody have sanctions if somebody's doing some really great things?"

He said he hoped a meeting with President Vladimir Putin would be arranged.

Does he not know the sanctions are there because of the bad things?
Hard luck Ukraine, you're not important anymore.

There is no conflict of interest because Trump really isn't interested in anything or anyone, unless it makes him money or makes him look good.

Who doesn't enjoy waking up to an early morning twitter feud the PEOTUS is attempting to start with the civil rights icon? :boggled:

Politicians, entertainers and others have come to the defence of a US civil rights campaigner, Congressman John Lewis, who has become embroiled in a row with President-elect Donald Trump.

Mr Trump tweeted that Mr Lewis was "all talk" and should focus on his constituents, after he said Mr Trump was not a legitimate president.

"Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime-infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad!"

But Mr Lewis' supporters reacted with anger, saying he was a hero and icon.

Others mentioned Mr Lewis' bravery and the fact that the exchange had taken place on the eve of Martin Luther King Day, on 16 January.

Many of them linked to photos of the two men, or to the 1965 so-called Bloody Sunday march in Alabama, in which Mr Lewis received a fractured skull as the protest was violently broken up by police.
Mr Lewis was a leading figure in the 1960s civil rights movement
He is the last surviving speaker from the March on Washington 50 years ago, led by Martin Luther King.

I don't know how either, but I'm sure he will. He gets away with everything. It's kind of his thing. We might as well get used to it.

Maybe not. He's put himself in the public eye whereas in the past no one was paying attention. Trump may have more buyer's remorse than the voters when his plans to get rich are thwarted by publicity.

People have said that Trump is like a cushion, he bears the impression of the last person to sit on him. As long as a sufficiently persuasive Ukrainian meets with him, they may yet be safe. ;)
I doubt they can afford Trump's loyalty.

... and Trump favorability was polling 37%, 51% unfavorable, coming IN to this week. The failing DJT already had the Worst Transition Ever award, then the dossier, now this. Sad.

Trump continues to demonstrate day after day what an ass he is. But attacking a civil rights leader only endears him more with his supporters.

Trump's modus operandi (attack a person by disparaging their accomplishments) is both despicable and transparent. The fact that he uses it against every critic without learning anything about them first also makes these attacks rather impotent.

Hey, what did the guy do since the 60s? He only got as far as Senator. Trump's the President, everyone else is a loser, including all the ex Presidents, they aren't Presidents anymore.

What does being a civil rights leader have to do with it? Must you and people on your side constantly bring up race? Trump attacked him because John Lewis is a moron. Anyone who can't accept the election because a foreign country leaked out just how corrupt the dem nominee was, is a moron.

Poor thing, attacking their accomplishments, welcome to life. ;)
