On the one side, you have a bigoted ass who will then be part of a powerful three branches monopoly. Start praying Ginsberg can hold on 4 more years.

On the other side, a mentally ill unstable petty bigoted ass that will chase after the news media, continue to spread outrageous lies as the truth and more and more people will begin to believe him because the media will be saturated with daily claims Putin is OK and anyone who dares challenge Trump will be demonized daily.

I think I prefer Pence, the devil I know.
 
The opinion on the Emoluments Clause that Chris is refuting as a 'political piece' was from the Heritage Foundation which is basically conservative philosophy headquarters. It's a bit hard to refute it as a 'conveniently' liberal or anti-Trump opinion where the arguments support a predetermined conclusion.

I suppose it fits the pattern, though. The ACA was a Heritage Foundation idea, too.

While I certainly don't like it, I will say that current legal interpretations make the Emoluments Clause entirely useless. Corporations are regarded as a distinct and separate 'person' from their owner(s). Even conservative legal scholars (for example Robert Delahunty who authored the Heritage opinion referred to above) pointed that out when it came to the same 'pay-for-play' accusations against Clinton.

ETA: If we're truly so concerned over potential foreign influence in elections, maybe we shouldn't let private entities who don't have to open their books to reveal their donors make unlimited contributions to candidates? But that's crazy talk, I know. If you think the influence of a million here and a million there is bad, just think what a foreign government's sovereign wealth fund could do.

Protests will aim to disrupt Trump inauguration

Protesters will attempt to close down 12 security checkpoints at the U.S. Capitol, where Trump will take the oath of office on Jan. 20, and along the 2.5-mile (4-km) parade route down Pennsylvania Avenue, according to leaders of a group called DisruptJ20.

DisruptJ20, which is working with Black Lives Matter and other protest groups, said it also planned predawn blockades and disruptive demonstrations during inaugural balls in the evening.

"We are not in favor of a peaceful transition of power, and we need to stop it," organizer Legba Carrefour said.

I say from experience (and as someone who is guilty themselves) that I've met very few social movement organizers that are also good spokespersons. They're all heart and you need that to keep people in the organization energized, but it makes for really bad off-the-cuff remarks that land poorly to those not already on board.

Looks like their going with tax cuts for the rich repeal and release white papers. I thought they'd at least go with repeal and delay since the current direction will disproportionately affect deep red states like Kentucky and West Virginia. Sucks to be one of the 20 million plus that will lose health insurance due to this but the Trump kids need their tax cuts.

As an aside, I actually demonstrated at what was called Nixon's "Counter-Inaugural" in 1969. So it would be hypocritical for me to condemn peaceful protest.

Voicing opposition is a cherished right, and should not be scorned, ridiculed or taken lightly.

Meh, still Obama's fault.

You see if it wasn't for Obamacare, those 20 million wouldn't have coverage and therefore wouldn't be in the position of risking losing it now.

The loss of their insurance now is absolutely and unequivocally Obama's fault. ;)

I suppose if they figured out a way for Nelson Rockefeller to serve as VP back in the day, Trump's situation shouldn't be too difficult to work thru.

I see, so with that in mind, as long as Trump has no Government contracts with foreign Governments, he should be fine. Since private money is not "from" that Government so to speak. If it worked for Obama, it'll also work for Trump.

Very different. Rockefeller was not running a company. They were worried about Rockefeller GIVING money to influence others, not taking money or having loans forgiven. And Rockefeller offered to put everything in a blind trust, something Trump has refused to do.

Except that visiting dignitaries staying at Trump properties are not using private money and it is from that Government.

Moreover, Painter (W's ethics guy) says that receiving permits to build in foreign countries can violate the emoluments clause. It is impossible to have business overseas without any interaction with overseas governments.
 
Trump is Nuts

The man is certifiable. That much is clear. He's about as consistent as a Magic 8 ball.

I thought that Trump would start acting sane after the election. That just maybe, his totally off his rocker attacking everyone who has the temerity to criticize him or his actions would be slowed by the serious nature of the job. Sadly no, it looks like we have 4 years of his crazy behavior. It's going to be a wild ride.
