Obama should be prosecuted for accepting the Nobel peace prize? Because people want Trump prosecuted? Prosecuted for what?

Trump's maze of foreign business interests aren't remotely the same as Obama accepting the Nobel peace prize. Is that the best you can do? Because to turn this around, that's what you're arguing, correct? Trump should be able to maintain all his foreign business interests while president because Obama accepted the Nobel peace prize?

And a substantial little nest egg that goes with it. I suppose Obama accepting money from a foreign source is different from Trump doing the same? Do tell.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is not a "King, Prince, or foreign State".

As many people have tried to point out, the Nobel Prize Committee is not an agent of the Norwegian state and it's taking gifts from a "King, Prince, or foreign State" without permission that's prohibited.

Tolls has pointed out your error most recently and, IMO, most succinctly.

In fact, the emoluments clause was a consideration when Obama received the Nobel. The conclusion of his ethics and legal counsel was that the prize does not come from the state of Norway, but from the Nobel Committee, even though the King of Norway is involved in the awards ceremony. Therefore, accepting the prize did not violate the emoluments clause.

No source at hand, probable the PBS News Hour back when this clause was first discussed in regards to Trump.

You do know that Norway doesn't actually award the Nobel, that accepting it doesn't violate the emoluments clause? The award comes from the Nobel Foundation, the King has nothing to do with providing the money or selecting the recipient, but only with the ceremony.

Because it was less than clear-cut, Obama donated all the prize money to charity.

If Trump promises to from now on give away very cent of profit his companies make as a result of dealings with foreigners, I might be inclined to compare the two cases.
But given the state of his Foundation, I'm not expecting him to change.
