President Trump

Play on "Thanks Obama!"?

Would be my bet. Of course I'd give credit to the President whose policies have resulted in getting unemployment rate down to 4.6% and getting median household income to rise a record 5.2% last year. The PEOTUS seems very content on advertising how severe his NPD is.

You're not that dumb, sunmaster14. AGW is a problem NOW.

If you disagree, then consider the latency problem. If you (meaning everyone) puts of dealing with AGW until it is a crises, then it will be impossible to fix. The horse will have left the barn ... and other such metaphors. CO2 and methane will continue to bake the planet for centuries after they are released.

Conservatives are too selfish to care about such petty things as the future. How else would they get the time and energy to try to go to the past?

Is it just me or is a lot of people sick of the vapid arguments of "what if". I go to Google News every day and read the headlines from pundits why Hill lost and if she had done this or that she would have won or if Bernie had run, he would have won or the latest of how if Obama had run, he would have won and Trump saying "no way!" As if anyone has a damn clue about such hypotheticals.

I'm still wondering how Trump won. I do believe a lot of things came into play. But pinning it down to one thing is absurd.

I still am sick to my stomach about the next 4 years, just hoping we get through it. I expect that many won't. I hope he's not as bad as I fear, unfortunately everything keeps pointing to the probability that he will be worse. Let me be wrong.

People want a rational explanation for an event that I now suspect was fundamentally irrationally. People didn't choose to vote Trump because of any clear headed assessment of his policies, he never really had any. He simply managed to tap into a deep well of fear, resentment and outright hatred that allowed him to scrape up enough Electoral College votes to win.

I may start drinking again.

There's no one clear explanation, but I think it's highly likely that the polls indicating she was almost guaranteed to win encouraged people in the "blue wall" states who might have supported her to stay home, when they might have voted if they thought it mattered. 77,000 votes in three states would have turned it the other way.

I understand wanting to know why and I do believe that is a valid question. But this was an election decided by a 100,000 votes in a few key states. An election in which Hillary won the popular vote by almost 3 million. So, a national perspective is probably worthless.

Biden, Bernie and Barack all believe THEY would have beat Trump. Trump of course is saying they are all wrong. But these are childish hypotheticals that can't actually be answered. Just Monday morning quarterbacking from people who weren't playing against one another.

I have my theories all of which may or may not be valid. But I'm not going to pretend I know. I guess it bothers me a bit when people pretend to know.

I saw a quote by Trump in an article about his war on the media, which came up in another thread. This was an Op-ed piece by Robert Reich, the former Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton.
Referring to the journalists at his rallies, Trump said, “I hate some of these people, but I’d never kill ‘em.” Link

Reich added, in parentheses, that Trump saying that he would never kill journalists that he "hates," was presumably in response to allegations of Vladimir Putin’s having dissident journalists murdered.

But why would Trump make that comment, why would he bring up killing journalists? What American president -- or even major American political figure -- would ever say something like that? Absolutely none I would say. What's scary is, it implies Trump has at least thought of it. Not necessarily having considered having Megyn Kelly knocked off, I don't mean that. But the idea that in some countries reporters who offend top leaders are sometimes murdered by the state. But he certainly doesn't seem to find it too upsetting; when he made the remark he seemed to consider it kind of funny. He was being snarky?

It also implies he is aware that Vladimir Putin has been accused of having journalists murdered. That seems to imply that even if it is true, and Trump believes it is true, Trump will still admire and respect Putin. That political murder -- in context -- is not considered totally out-of-bounds by our incoming President.

Do I think, am I suggesting that, at some point during his presidency Donald Trump will begin using murder as a political tool? No I am not. What I am saying is, Trump is totally unlike any American president we've ever had and no one really knows what to expect. No one knows, probably least of all Trump himself.

Is this going to be the general Trump dumb crap thread? Is this for things such as claiming responsibility for 5000 sprint jobs announced back in April and directly attributable to global economics?

its interesting that you find that so odd. It is said that this is Trumps jocular persona. I'm quite at home with this kind of person, it's just normal to me.

I thought Obama was just as much insulting to Clinton as Trump thinks he was to Trump claiming Obama would have won. Makes me want to say, "screw you, why didn't you do more for Clinton than you did?"

On another note, talking about the pundits and all the speculating, not yet have I seen these people wake up. All these predictions are based on the underlying assumption, Trump does not have pathologic narcissism. I wonder how long it's going to take these pundits to figure out they need to take mental illness into consideration in all these rationalizing-Trump explanations and predictions they are making?

Respectfully, I don't buy that. Obama campaigned for Hillary and so did his wife. I'm not really sure what you expected him to do. That said, it is insulting, although I am not really sure he thought in those terms when he said it. It simply is a form of confidence or arrogance as much as anything.

I doubt they ever will. Trump has a huge ego. For that there is no doubt. But I do believe pretty much all pols that reach a similar status have a big ego. Trump though, seems to dwarf everyone in that department. At what point would he have crossed that line from having a big ego to being an egomaniac?

You're at home with people making veiled threats? Hmmm.

I'm not as sensitive as libs are.

Saying "hmm" at the end of your posts suggest you're getting ready to guess about something AGAIN. Go ahead, give me your emotional guess.

Trump's comment, "But I won't kill them," given that he has often expressed admiration for a leader who is believed to have ordered literally dozens of journalists murdered, can easily be seen as a veiled threat. In fact, no can say with any authority that it wasn't meant to be taken that way: i.e Don't push me too far!

But we don't know, we have to wait and see what lies ahead. I just find it astonishing he would even make a comment like that publicly.

You're entirely too used to fake phony politicians, I'm sure Trump will leave you breathless on multiple occasions.

you obviously don#t care for the role of critical journalism in a functioning democracy.
luckily for you, we won't be in one for much longer under Trump.
