George Michael dies

There was a BBC News site piece a week or two ago saying they hsve prepsred obituaries for quite a few celebs of all ages 'just in case'. They compared how many they have used from year to year and there was a 'spike' in the first quarter of the year.

I wonder if their definition of famous is the same as everyone else's?

so sad, this is my youth vanishing....
in the days when we were young and innocent, I had SUCH a crush on him..

If you wanted to wake him up before you go, go, you missed your chance.

2015: Allen Toussaint, Ornette Coleman, BB King and Christopher Lee.

I rest my case.

Considering I had to look up who two of these were, I'd say that the likelihood is that those were less famous than Bowie, Prince and Rickman. The other issue you'll find is that while there were a goodly Entertainment deaths in 2015, few had a wide name recognition, whereas in 2016 there have been near a dozen very well known names pass on, many of then quite young, being in just their 50's or 60's. I don't recall anyone talking about how horrific 2015 had been on entertainers, but virtually everyone I see is commenting on 2016, which would also indicate a lot of the bigger names, including some of the biggest died this year.

Indeed

Leonard Cohen

Glen Frey

Back to George. He had a seriously great voice. I wasn't a great fan, but I admired his talent, and his willingness to take on record labels.

Yes, I think it's no illusion that more "big" entertainment celebrities have died this year. Such deaths are bound to cluster from time to time when dealing with random events.
